It's always nice to have a friend as company, so I don't complain if this happens, because I enjoy the company from time to time being that 99% of my sessions are solo, but I usually go looking for a redemption session immediately at my locale if I get skunked.

This past Sunday as I walked out to check a surf spot I passed a guy who told me it was too small and that I should go south (out of the jetty shadow). He was looking at the shore break right out front and apparently not aware of the clearly visible rock reef further out. I went out and surfed one of the best sessions I've ever had. Kook.

It really is, finding quality conditions makes surfing so much more enjoyable and ups ones wave count. Getting skunked reduces stoke. Thanks to Frosty, we all know the value of propre sand reconne.

Never thought this was a thing beyond the road trip from town to Pea Island when we were groms. Funny how many of you guys had similar experiences. It was always a fun gesture but never trusted. I don't remember ever turning around b/c of a thumbs down.

Same here... But besides that, none of my friends still surf, really. But even when they did still surf, I quit trying to coordinate sessions with other people pretty quickly. They just took forever to gear up and get in the water. It was always... "see you out there..."

At one point I remember being asked, "you never surf alone, do you?" My reply was something like, "if I only surfed with other people, I'd never surf," because at the time, very few people surfed with any kind of regularity, and even fewer surfed in the winter.

I always returned the finger up...and I need not tell you which finger.....
Which I still do when someone flashes me the thumb/small finger gesture--not THAT is for morons........

Organizing surfers is like herding cats. I have two friends I try to coordinate with cuz it's usually more fun to be with friends. But I don't depend on their actions or inactions. I often end up surfing by myself.

someone always holds things up because he 'has to dump real quick'. Don't be that guy, and avoid involving him in your plans at all costs.

Herding cats is easy. We had a miniature collie that would herd our cats with no problem, they didn't stand a chance with that dog. Once we would call the cats the dog would run around the yard and round them up and lead them to the house.

I surf with friends often... We just never make plans (unless it's firing and we are traveling somewhere).
We have our local spot and when there's waves there's always a few friends there.

then you wait around for him to finish dumping, and when he comes out he has to go put his contacts in or some BS and tells you to just meet him out there. GTFO, glad I was cooking on your couch in my rubber for the last 20 minutes

There's nothing worse than going with a bodyboarder that suddenly remembers that he forgot his swim fins, halfway to the beach
