I went a good stretch of probably 5 years surfing in Delaware maybe 6 times a year tops...as someone who lives there, 2010 + / - 3 years on either side was a wasteland at IRI with a complete ****fest of people up at NJ.

As Chuck mentioned, most people will never catch dumps as good as it can look in pictures, etc. because it's a very specific overlap of various conditions and a small window to get it. And Chuck gets most any wave he wants because there's not very many takers!

Skeg, that last pic I posted they were doing tow ins at dumps. Huge stand up barrels. That was an epic Dumps day

No doubt man. Besides the sand situation on both sides hurting it now the social media & cell phones have packed every lineup.

I remember how fun NS was when it broke @ the end of the Jetty & the beach was flat then. Hell it was even fun with the wicked backwash on a good swell that would make it halfway the length of the jetty. NS cove had some screaming & long rights on anything chest high or above.

Skeg I will be 48 in a few months & although I don't go out no where near like I used to because of work & family obligations I still am looking for the heavy days & try to make the session work. I used to really never miss a good, big swell but I will still show up get some drainers & leave.

Zero here is a pic of me from about 8 years ago.

I just hit 45 and I know what ya mean by family/life obligations. But, I still try to get out there every chance I get! My work computer is acting crazy, so I can't see your pic. I'll check it out when I get home.

what he said. SS used to be the only left in DE and shelter from N winds. There's probably about 7-8+ breaks in DE that are long gone due to the replenishment. RIP.

One of the best days I have had in 10 years. Most every wave was deep & makeable which is pretty rare there not like south towards OC which is more makeable comparatively. It was like this from 7am until 2pm when the wind turned south & tide was getting too low. Got out of the water & drove straight to the Outer Banks for the weekend & had head high waves for 2 days.

Since were sharing pics....a friend took this one of me at baby SS a few years ago. The water temps were about 34, fun little waves, out by myself mid afternoon. you can see chunks of ice in the ocean out by the red buoy.

that's an awesome shot, I'd kill for little bowls like that on even a moderately consistent basis

Heaviest day at IRI for me was Labor Day last year. Granted I'm not usually down that way during hurricane season, so I don't usually get the bomb swells, but the peak day of Hermine (Monday I think) was no joke. I remember the current was a conveyor belt ripping down to OC

    Good shots keep em coming.

I scored my share of good surf there over the years. Attached is one from winter 16. Really fun waves and a great sunset. Good times. IRI Winter 16.jpg
