This forecast is killing me, where are the waves? Isnt this supposed to be the best time of year? So far its been a lousy fall
i have no idea what you're talking about...this has been one of the best fall seasons in recent memory for me, at least in terms of pure consistency of rideable waves. it hasn't been epic, but there have been some really good, fun days if you knew where to go, & many, many more simply fun days. 1:10pm update: just got out of the water after a fun log session at the north end of ocnj. neat little knee-high peelers that went for yards & yards. got to trunk it, too, which was really nice. gotta get it in while you can b/c we'll all be in 5mils before we know it!
Problem boils down to people relying solely on internet forecasting and surf cams instead of using them as a guide and physically checking out the water. It has been rideable most days and hasn't been bad this week. If I weren't sick right now I would have gotten wet almost every day.
I think an even bigger source of aggravation lies in youtube and photo posts...VERY easy to see NY or Hatty going off hardcore and think "damn, I sold myself short by not driving 7 hours..." Realistically, this post-event hypothetical plan never would have worked, but it's easy to get caught up in that mentality and feel like you wasted the opportunity for something better. Solution? Get off the internet and go surf (ironic that I am saying that, but then again, if I were in the car already driving down to Buxton, I'd probably be happier too!).
getting skunked or at least sucking it up and paddling out anyway even in sub-par conditions is just part of surfing - esp. on the east coast
