I was down there in March of 2013, talked to some locals said they were going to take it out soon. Is it still there?
a while ago...i want to say they took it out in april maybe? they had to get it out before the summer crowds started arriving...as iconic as the thing was, it was a major liability w/ a bunch of drunk tourists stumbling around.
yeah pretty sure the american flag at the top was put there by someone who climbed it, and was arrested by the local pd as soon as he climbed down...

he was a local guy, not just some random. did it to protest how slowly things were moving & how people were claiming that everything is back to normal when it so clearly isn't.
I was totally bummed that coaster went down I never went down there strange as it may seem. I hear it used to have some of the best wAves
