got a decent sized ding to fix before a trip in a couple weeks. don't think i have time to let a pro do it but i think i can pull it off myself. eps/epoxy board, plan to fix it with epoxy solarez. about an inch deep gash that i'm guessing i should put some cloth into but wanted to get you guys' thoughts on how i should proceed. photo attached: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7387757@N03/14288293350/in/photostream/player/
Get some of the catalyst that solarez recommends and get a pack of microballoons too. Mix the resin and microballoons to a peanut butter consistency then add the recommended amount of catalyst and fill the hole until it's slightly over the existing resin so you can sand down once it kicks. Sand it all down and rough up the surrounding areas. Put a little patch on and sand until you're happy, you can do the UV activation on this one.
i'm unfamiliar with microballoons. should i use this rather than cloth? and i use catalyst rather than the sun for the deep part and use the sun for the top coat? thanks for the help!
If you have a couple weeks and haven't really attempted this type of thing...A shop should be able to turn around in less than a week. However, you could use solrez to fill...then sand flush glass...feather....hotcoat...sand...Polish..done. I'd do a search on here or go to sways plenty of help online for step by step instruction...
Nah son..... Epoxy on epoxy is good. Epoxy on poly is good. Poly on epoxy is no good. Suncure isn't solarez but they both have epoxy and poly products.
goin to be honest brotha. if you fix that with solarez or any quick fix its gunna delaminate from that point overtime. I shape and do plenty of ding repair so ive seen this a lot. think of it like this... a good ding repair consists of 3 qualities: good, fast or cheap. you can only pick 2.... so fast and cheap isint going to be good. I suggest taking your time and doing it correctly. microballoons is a good move, light and cheap. my advice for an affordable fix that's fairly easy: qcell with some EPOXY resin (forget poly its outdated garbage by now). sand the qcell down. put some cloth down, sand it. then take a paint bush with resin and do a quick "hot coat". if you follow that with qcell or microballoons your board will work until you ding it again. qcell is easier to find then microballoons hope that helps
