DKing

  1. Ok, I know I have a LARGE group of quite talented DK peeps in our area (MM county, NJ and then some)...I personally would like to start DKing but am somewhat...OK, totally clueless in terms of where to begin. I've watched the "getto" vids and stuff and none are really up to par in my bleak opinion. It's a flat spell and a great time to learn--so--any input would be appreciated....thanks in advance

BTW...I plan to order KICKs fins...my churchills are great for prone ridding but are way to clunky thus far as I try out the DK thing. I've heard alot of good things about KICKs. Can the board that you are using really limit you? I'm sure some of the boards for DKing have different weight distributions, width, etc....thanks.

The board can definitely limit you, but an all dk shape can have the reverse effect in limiting your proning just the same. what you may want is a good all around template that lends itself well to both prone and dk, somewhere in the middle. I'd recommend a crescent tail for sure. We have kicks in stock and plenty of great dk and dual shapes we can have to anyone from MD to Boston next day with free shipping on orders $125+.

    Kicks fins

I finally used these today for a full session. I like them.

They have a comfortable foot pocket and a thin, soft heel strap. The fit seems a bit deceptive. When I try them on out of the water, they feel snug but comfortable, but in the water everything seems to loosen up, so I wound up using them with fin socks and a heel pad to tighten up the fit, and tethers so I don't lose them. I ordered them online, but even if I'd tried them on in a shop I'd still have that loose-in-the-water fit.

The thrust seems to be a bit greater than the Churchill Slashers. Just enough thrust to catch the tiny waves we had today fairly easily, but not too much, so they didn't hurt my effed up foot. Also, the blades aren't as stiff as the Churchills, they seem to bend both ways when you're kicking with them, I had to get used to that.

I'd say they're a bit more difficult to walk in, in the shallow water, than the Churchills, but all things considered they're a pretty nice fin.

As far as using them for DKing, I wouldn't know. I could use a few tips about that, myself.:)
