Do you believe in extraterrestrial life ?

And you would think a race advanced enough to travel here would be able to observe our planet without being seen. After all, we are closer to having light bending invisible armor than we are to traveling faster than light.

 

They're out there and they've been here. I wish they would help humanity on earth get back on track.
I had 2 vivid experiences seeing UFO's. One of which was something whipping around at impossible speeds, doing impossible direction changes without slowing down. I watched it for about 30 min before it vanished. It was pretty amazing to see something move in an "impossible" fashion.

 

I recently captured footage of the infamous "pipeline monster".u can see it for yourself on the pipeline cam rewind for Friday.as u can see this creature is nearly 20x the size of the humans.i thought it was a rock at first,until it started creeping towards 3rd reef.let me know what u guys think

 

cepriano, i thought i was the only one who had witnessed the monster....it was years ago, Pipe was bombing that day, i was sitting all alone out at 3rd reef waiting for a set to wall up and out of nowhere i saw that same monster...although i was terrified, upon closer inspection i realized she was a friendly seafarer and began quite an interesting conversation with her...before i caught my last ride in that day, she gave me a pleasant surprise.

That is the stupidest video I have eve seen it didn't make sense. I believe in aliens but not like that just some other life other than inn earth

Ideas like the Drake Equation give some perspective on the possibilities of life elsewhere, but it's really not useful in any sense.

Regardless of whether you believe life exists elsewhere in the universe and possibly hitched a ride to Earth on a comet (panspermia), or that life on Earth is unique to Earth and arose out of a primordial soup (abiogenesis), we're clearly alive here and it's becoming increasingly apparent that the building blocks of life and the physics and chemistry that govern them occur in many other places beyond our planet. This wasn't always obvious to the boffins.

There's now good evidence that life could survive elsewhere, beyond our solar system, but there are other possibilities to consider other than a full-fledged alien civilization capable of interstellar travel. First and foremost is that we're the first intelligent creatures in the universe. We have no idea what defines life, how long it takes to occur from scratch, whether life exists beyond carbon-based forms, or even how a collection of chemicals can somehow yield a sentient being. We've come a long way since the Renaissance but we're basically clueless. We can't possibly use the Drake Equation to judge life elsewhere in the universe.

We make assumptions on how old the universe is and how far away things are based on observations of type Ia supernova, the standard candle to measure brightness and distance. But if the assumptions and math are off by 1/10 of a percent the size and age of the universe changes by orders of magnitude. And it's happened before with other scientific theories. What you know to be true today will likely not entirely be true in 100 years. But the assumption is that it took life on Earth ~3.5 billion years to create the Swell Info forum.

The p-branes who believe in string theory are religious nutbags because there's really no way to prove an hypothesis like that. Therefore it's not exactly science. It's interesting reading (Brian Greene) but derived solely from math (as is the conclusion that the Big Bang occurred). Can math, a human invention, accurately explain the universe? If you believe that humans are true simians and not a by-product of a god, then it's worthwhile to understand how and why the mind does what it does. Could our minds have evolved to survive AND understand the universe? From an evolutionary perspective what's the point of the latter? Given that we didn't have much art, literature, science, music or other "time consuming" things until we mastered agriculture, that's a tough sell to assume an inherent capacity for understanding things that would take millennia to acknowledge publicly.

Think about it. We're using a tool (our brains) to understand laws of the universe that our brains were not designed to understand. It's the best tool we have, but it's known to have faults. Our vision constantly tricks us. We perceive that which isn't. Our brain fills in the gaps when our senses cannot accurately gauge our environment. Even when you talk on the phone, the conversation is sampled at a rate that doesn't actually produce a constant sound. Your brain makes up the difference and comprehends full words. Everything you see is in the past and you never actually physically touch anything! And then there's the strangeness of quantum mechanics and faster-than-light particle entanglement.

And the human mind works in such a way that when we answer one question, we create a dozen more that we never would have thought to ask before we learned the answer to the first question. It's a vicious cycle. But one that clearly pays dividends because look what we can do. But we must consider the likelihood that our minds might be physically incapable of understanding some things. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to understand or augment our capacity with technology, but we make up descriptive languages and stories to feel good about it. And it works. But is it accurate and true?

And then, there's this:
The same science that gives us GPS, cell phones and MRIs suggests that the ordinary matter that you and I can see accounts for roughly 5% of the actual matter in the universe. 5 percent. Well, at least that's what the math says. We assume dark matter and dark energy exist because it's a convenient way to explain away the discrepancies between what we expect to see and what we observe. But it all seems plausible and we feel very proud in understanding the universe by making observations on a fraction of the actual 5% of what we can possibly see. Human beings are not exactly humble creatures. I believe in the math even though it's insanely difficult to understand. It's the best we have. Or at least better than Apollo dragging the sun across the sky behind his chariot.

I saw an unidentified flying object over Utah on a cold winter morning a few years ago. I saw it glide into a hovering position and sit there for a while. I took my eyes off it for a few seconds to reach down for my camera, and when I looked up it was gone. The sky was clear and it was nowhere in sight. No ordinary plane could have moved that fast without still being visible somewhere on the horizon. But just because it's unidentified doesn't mean it's from outer space. Maybe it was still there, but hidden.

But none of this is important for a surf forum so remember two things: never put the earphone labeled "R" into your left ear, and that it's turtles all the way down.

 

"All discussions" is self defining. A couple of you are making this out to be a fifty something page NFL thread on a surfing website. It's not. Personally, I wouldn't bother if all I had to read was dumb and potentially jinxing threads about how good the next swell is going to be (you're not supposed to expect gifts because it rude and you should be grateful for whatever you may get. Respect the ocean way more dudes, she can give you the highest high in life or just take it. Remember that!)

 

Viajero touches on what I've been thinking during this ironic, but entertaining post: we're surfers, we ride fiberglass sticks on waves for amusement - the topic, while entertaining and important, is completely ironic (though amusing, thougt provoking, and at times extremely well written) here.

So regardless of what we think, what we see, and what we can or can't explain, enjoy this post just like you enjoy riding your foam/fiberglass/epoxy/wooden stick on waves.

I'm not going into details becuase half of you think I'm delusional anyway, but I've also had a couple experiences where what I saw had NO other explanation other than being a UFO. And countles others that were just so weird but too quick/far away/or had some plausible deniability of being some type of special craft. But I will say this...of the 2 occurrences that left no room for doubt, the first one I saw was flying low(just above treeline), slow(like hovering right over us), silent, and the thing was farkin' huge(like 50-60 yard diameter). Three other people I was with saw it, and we all almost pooped our pants. The thing was right over our heads. To see the laws of physics defied is an amazing, earth shattering experience, and not a day goes by that I don't think about it. May 6, 2004. I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but since others have shared their experience I wanted to share mine. In my opinion, it's soooo far beyond our comprehension that we simply need to accept that there is more going on here than we could ever imagine, and start focusing on building a civilization we'd actually be proud to present to whatever else is out there.

Or we're just some alien science experiment, a giant fruiting chamber of life. Maybe the aliens(or whatever they are) just cruise the universe in search of environments hospitable to life, deposit some DNA, and come back every now and again to check things out. Or earth is just an intergalactic reality tv show...

Dude it really was freaky. It was a disc though not triangular, but it was so close you could see the metal or whatever the hell it was made out of, and even that aspect of it looked otherworldly. And just this creepy barely audible swooshing sound. And I'm sure someone will say where are the pics. This was in '04 before we as a species needed a cell phone everywhere we went.

I gotta say I've internally debated whether it could've been some experimental gvt. craft. And I think not, for a number of reasons. This thing was beyond experimental, it had a very commanding presence, and it was flying beyond efficiently. And think about it, there's waaaay too much money to be made if we really had this technology, no way our greed could be kept in check.
