Purchased a subscription last year to Surfer and read them but found that forums, websites, etc filled the information gap for me. planning on cancelling my subscription but was curious if anyone was still subscribing? If so...why? I get it if you are keeping a collection...
Love Surfer. Love the writing and the photography. Love being able to pass it on too. It will be perfect when they have photos of women surfing and ditch the photos of women posing only for the pleasure of men. I can dream....
I would to surfers journal just like Tard... but I don't. other then that I read some of them through the flipboard app....
Sometimes my wife brings me home an old issue of Surfing or Transworld Surf from the library where she buys old mags for a quarter apiece. They are cheesy like cheddar. I like the RedBulletin better. More rad stuff. But still kind of trendsuckuppopcultureish for me. Great photos though.
Had Surfer for a while but kinda got burnt out, I have several issues I still haven't read yet. I will of course but kind of needed a break from it.
I had a Surfer sub in the '70s and'80s. It was superior because it used to have a surf "story" and a weird surfing related pic on the last page. Then it became jam pack with ads and surf wear. I'll usually get one for flights.
Was given a subscription for Christmas about 7 years ago. Found the ads really annoying and the little slips of paper that kept falling out every other page. Don't have trash service and I drive the garbage to the dump, those mags are heavy. Never renewed the subscription and they kept sending them for almost 3 years! I called to get them to stop and they would take the opportunity to try and sign me back up. Next month you guessed it, surfer in my mail box. My guess is they tell their advertisers how many issues they put out and to what age group so they keep some people on the circulation to keep those numbers up, even if they don't pay.
TSJ - even if some months I only look at the pictures - but what lovely pictures Kinda like what Playboy was to me when I was 15 -without a happy ending
This and I generally hoard them for upcoming road trips where they definitely come in handy. I'd still much rather look at a magazine/book in a car or plane than a little ass phone.
