Does Long Island ever get "heavy"?

    Everytime I have surfed there, or watched videos etc. it is a pretty mellow wave comparable to what I have surfed in NJ. Does it ever get heavy/hollow like you can find in central NJ? Most things I see tend to be from the Long Beach area.. Maybe i'm just looking in the wrong area

    No .... Not like NJ.

    NJ receives swell at a more direct angle, and as a result, NY is always considerably less hollow, and usually smaller, across all of the island. In addition, it doesn't hold size.

    If it's quality surf you're after, you are one of the lucky ones who was already born in the best state.

    NJ is usually hollower. LI is better more often and bigger as you head east
