There is an ton of places that publish knot info but a lot of surfers use an overhand knot which has a reduction level of around 45-50% depending on line. http://swvamrg.blacksburgrescue.org/knots There are a lot of variables in knot testing and 40% is a good average for knots used in our application. Dynamic and static strength testing is far more important for line that is used on boats/ships, rescue crews and climbing but I thought it was interesting for this post, which I now realize was originally a total joke.
