Did SI coin this term? I think its catching on in the general public, I heard someone who does not surf use it today and then on facebook some lady in florida used it to refer to the jacksonville jaguars who wore the "i cant breath" shirt. Please add your input.
I know that on the now defunct NE Surf forum they coined "Douche Yacht" but I don't think it evolved to 'canoe.'
I forget the correct anthropological term...but it's the opposite of cultural diffusion...when the same thing develops independently in two different places. I believe that's the case here. Yankee birthed it, it caught on, then Paulie found this video of a pretty little lady singing a douce canoe song.
This was the unknown lady from fb's comment in regards to the Jag's- Guess fans should wear some that say "you can't win either". Douchecanoes!

+1 on the rack, shes a 4 or 5 but the rack makes up for it. Too bad about the douche canoe coining, for a minute I though that was birthed here. Oh well.

While the term was invented elsewhere, SI, with yankee and rcarter leading the charge, elevated it to its present status. but you're not a douche sailboat...
Almost labeled someone in 'real life' a douche canoe the other day. I'm with GitCarter: 'Douche Yacht' especially here in overblown, Range Rover DC Land.
I called a guy in traffic that the other day and my 9 year old laughed his ass off. Douche Yacht can also refer to giant toothpicks built by Gnomes.
Been hearing that term for at least 20 years, it's a good one. Once had the head high school jock douche try to screw with me at my lunch table. Stood up and told him to "f-off you ass sniffing scumcat!" The whole Lunch table laughed and proceeded to ask what a scumcat was. I said I have no idea it just came to me.
Gracias Seldom but I just rolled with the term after seeing that tread on SI, long time ago it seems. "Giant toothpicks built by gnomes"....aka douche yachts.....there's a best-selling story in them thar woods, Carter, really, there is.
I thought I brought it to SI when I told the story of how some girl at Fire Fly called me a douche canoe for accidentally cutting her in line? could be wrong. Anyway, now when I hear or read it, i do think, "Yankee". LOL.
