I don't get why people hate Gabe so much. If it's just because he is Brazilian, that's fair (I guess?). The kids surfing is flawless though, and consistent. If he goes to the air, he lands. If he goes in a barrel, he comes out. That's what JJF is missing. Consistency. It doesn't matter how many pipe masters you can win if you can't get out of the first round at the other events. At the end of the day, that's all it really comes down to, no?

I'm still a huge kelly fanboy. I like that even though kelly is over 40 he is still doing innovative things to keep pace, but if you watch tahiti or pipe, he is a barrel magician. It's like he is cheating death and physics and whatever else.

I sort of agree with the comments about Mick, he is a power surfer, doesn't have much of an air game (at least doesn't show it on the ASP). He's more the type to heave himself into a death pit. Mick's always a contender at pipe for that very reason, don't count him out.

I REALLY enjoyed the Dusty Payne vs Julian Wilson match-up at the sunset pro. That was pure power vs air. That one wave in the final where Dusty wrapped a power carve alllll the way around under a heaving closeout lip- that was incredible. I'll see that over airs all day. Man, Julian was f**king hucking them though, every wave!

This year I'll actually be there for the pipe competition, on the beach, with a cooler of beer. I'm so stoked!

Probably. She seems like a cool chick... But everyone says "Medina needs his daddy."

JJf has never been more than 6 feet from his mommy.

there's a difference between traveling w/ a bit of home & familiarity w/ you(jjf) & having someone along for the ride who is going to berate the judges & attempt to sway decisions in your favor (medina).

i'm pretty sure medina's stepdad is his coach, while jjf's mom is just there.

Just saying there's a double standard... Don't hear much about Dino Andino (on here) and he does the same sh!t.

perhaps. the andinos have been soundly abused for their behavior, & rightly so (just hasn't happened on this site, as you noted). dino andino seems to have taken a few steps back & dropped the reins a bit over the last tour season or so. &, unsurprisingly, kolohoe has had greater success as a result.

Agreed... I don't think it's a coincidence that Kolohe started performing better when he backed off.
What's funny is I agree with everyone about Medina's attitude. I hope he gets knocked out and it comes down to Kelly and Mick (with a Kelly win).
I just think it's funny to see the things people say about him, but not others.
Watching him exit with 2 minutes left in Portugal is what makes him a douche...
people complain about him claiming. But when Jordy, Kolohe, Joel, Mick and everyone else (except JJF) do it it's passion.
He needs his daddy, but JJF and Kolohe have such tight families.
When he wins, Zosea rigged it. But nothing when he loses (even heats he should have won)
