haha, i haven't been able to get a job yet because i'm only a junior in high school and am booked to the brim after school with sports, weight-lifting, homework, and a little bit of time to myself (just a little bit ). That being said, I am working at getting a job this summer. I just put together a resume, however it may lead to an internship or more likely volunteer work. But a job would be great! Well said. Great point! Haha I completely agree with you here. And hey, you said you weren't taking any sides! ha jk
A point not metioned....Haiti is a country the U.S. took over and occupied from 1915-34. Our takeover, of course, was financially motivated. And when we left, we really didn't care if they had functioning government or not. So the Haitian military - that we trained - took over. Brutal military backed dictators then ruled Haiti for many decades. As long as they were "friendly" to the U.S., our government just looked the other way. (Go Google Papa "Doc" Duvalier) So our hands are far from clean with Haiti. Earthquake aid might be the least of what we owe them. Lots of similar stories in Central America. They don't call them "banana republics" by accident.
I understand in the thought of helping are country first but sometimes you got to forget about the borders and do the right thing. Were all on this planet together. When you have a chance just go on one of these sites and look at the pictures these poor people are going through.Makes you really think. You just cant say screw them their not from are country.
hope everything is ok. its really a tradgey with all the poverty that the o****ry has hope the US helps
We still enjoy some remaining freedoms In the USA. Those who supposedly care more then others about this should fell free to empty their bank accounts and give as much of their money and time to the relief effort as they choose to. Put up or shut up. Shakagrom needs to get a job and stop being so naive about a great many things. <<<we are a REPUBLIC nothing more nothing less, but you should know that since you are still in school, right? And by the way, a fool and his money are soon parted, so keep believing that "we elected these officials who are more competent politically, therefore we must trust and support there decision as taxpayers. << I do not have to "must" anything. MATT JOHNSON seems to think it is ok that "Obama was on tv this morning saying how they are gonna go there basicly see over the rebuilding process." <<<so we can rebuild Hati but somehow no one give a rats ass whether we rebuild our country which is in desperate need of being rebuilt and the jobs that it would bring. But really I am not surprised that OBAMA would take My money/your money and give it to someone else, just like he said and keeps saying,... he wants to spread the wealth. <<you work, and someone else gets the benefits, sounds fair right? Go ahead, take that college fund for your kids and just send it down to Haiti, I am sure most of it will end up in some numbered account somewhere. So naive.......... Retzlaff44, sorry but this country owes nothing to no one, and every other country feels the same way about their country, they owe nothing to no one. stoneybaloney, your post is invalid. "backlash", what backlash? No one cares whether we help or not, they only care when we don't help them. Look, I am not saying that we should not help. But people die everyday, lots of them. I do not see anyone going out of their way to cry a river over the "Darfur genocide". And if anyone thinks that if some really bad crap happens in the USA, like a small NUKE, or a 8.0 hitting Cali, the whole world would be beating down our borders to get in with help, you really are a fool. We need to fix our own house and take the rafter out of our own eyes before we try and help others.
Invalid? Wow, I thought I was entitled to an opinion - my bad. Yours is invalid too then because you contradicted yourself by saying "no one cares whether we help or not, they only care when we don't help" - your bad
I never said I was okay with Obama saying that the US was gonna see over the rebuilding process. I just stated what he said on TV today. Do I hate that my tax money is gonna be used in something that doesnt affect out country Yeah I am a bit disapointed but what can you do exept Vote for someone new in 2012 Yeah we got our problems here in Like poverty, Drugs , Homelessness, and Parts or New Orleans Still in shambles. But hey sometimes you have to put your problems aside and help with bigger problems that ours at the current time. And Far as New Orleans goes you can thank George Bush and his Fema tards for that Cluster ****. If your kids or family were in a Haitian's situation now and needed medical aide would you hope that someone would come help them in your time of need.?????? I know if the rolls were reversed I would pray that someone would step in and help us
If I had family there, yes I WOULD BE concerned and try and help,.. them. Mr. Baloney, I see what you are saying, kind of, but I think you, hope most understood The point trying to be made, namely that in short, "damned if you do damned if you don't" I think the word I should have used was not invalid, but irrelevant. I mean really, who cares what another country thinks of us? Do they care what we think of them? Don't think so. I think it safe to say that if you were on the Titanic and people were dying all around you in the water, but you were one the the lucky ones to have gotten on one of the few life boat, you would not give up your spot for another and allow yourself to die instead, nor would you care what others thought of you fighting off men, women and children from the sides of the boat to ensure that you remained safe and dry. <<<it happened>> It happens all the time, everyday in like form somewhere on the planet. **** happens, sometimes it happens to us sometimes to others. There is a time compassion, love, caring, helping...this is one of those times I do agree. But for the USA to constantly be called on to be the one to send money or help or that it is always our responsibility to take the lead is BS and further more, once again, we need help here, now, in this country. We have our own Corrupt and Wicked government to deal with and steal from us, why should we have to support all the other corrupt and wicked governments on the face of this planet?
Thats not what I mean . If you and you Family were in Hati and you or a family member needed Family medical attention . I am sure you would Pray the The USA would help your country in the time of need. The United States is not the only country that assists in Disaster Relife. Many counties help in disaster aide. It just that the US makes it there goal the plaster it up there in the Media. All Goverment are ****ed up its always been like that and always will be cause most people are greedy. But you got exept the fact that Other countries have more ****ed up goverment systems than the United States Being on the Titanic and this situation are totally different. Would I do what it takes to save my family and me if I was on the Titanic when it was going down . Damn right I would. If I was a Hatian I would do what it does to help my family but not to th point where I would take the life of someone else family member from them. In times of disaster and need the community as a whole will come together as a group.
Sure I would pray, but not that The Good old USA would come to my rescue. I certainly would not expect it or count on it, from them or any other country, That is for sure.
I understand that, but when you have the resources to do something - you do it. If this country is going to "stay on top", its going to have to help those down below.
Alot of coutries are helping out France, Cuba, Austraila, and a few other have been flyinging in Supplies for the Haitian's as we speak . Its good to see that the are other countries that are compassionate as the US is
How could the world ignore such an event? It was natural disaster not war, or any other circumstance that brought this upon Haiti. It is by no fault of their own. Close to 50,000 are presumed dead, some reports up to 100,000, with 3 million in need. That's insane. And this didnt happen slowly over a year or two, this happened in 48 hours. An initial tragedy and the backlash as wounded die and the thirsty and hungry starve. There are piles of dead people in the streets. After the earthquake there was no where to go. There was no food. No water. No medical treatment. And thousands more people lost their lives just because there was no help. Finally help is arriving and there is hope. but i think it is unfortunate we can only imagine the chaos and destruction, and so remain detached. This isn't some media firestorm that is blowing things out of proportion - quite the contrary, reports from the field/viral videos are proclaiming things to be much worse than portrayed..! I am proud of my nation to say that we are doing what we can to help. One of my best friends was leaving on the USS Carl Vincent for a world tour and was rerouted upon leaving port for Haiti. He is there now. I am truly proud to be an American when I see our nation providing succor to those in need. To ignore a nation in its ultimate time of crisis and need is socially and ethically irresponsible and reprehensible.
Doctors with No Borders has 800 doctors there now and they are in the process of getting another 80 there as well along with inflatable hospitals that they can do almost and type or surgery or any other medical need a regular hospital does. China , France and Cuba have been flying cargo jets in all day along with the ones the United States have been. I am not really in to political debates and cant really see why this thread turned into one this a more of a Compasion for you fellow man and more of being treated as one would be treated. Personally I am proud to be a American. Yeah our country is F'd up and we have Crime, Drugs and senseless acts of violence but, Compared to other countries we are living alot better.
Doctors Without Borders is an amazing organization. They have people in places that no one else wants to go to. It's a very dedicated group. They are all about the people who need treatment, not about politics. Yes, due to Haiti's extreme poverty they already had staff working in the country before the earthquake. I give them a donation every year and sent an extra one today. A belated congratulations Matt on the new baby. Hold her extra tight when she comes home.
I find it a relief, that where we live in the Mid Atlantic the only real natural disaster threat is that of hurricanes and flooding. I definitely do not have any plans to move to an area, such as San Francisco, that is just waiting for another disaster strike. Not if, just when, in such places. if you are feeling generous, than go to redcross.org now and donate.
i agree with you swellinfo...and everyone say your prayers and donate to help the people. Dont fight on an internet forum about who is right when people need help
