Not to state the obvious but.....This is gonna be bad...real bad. Just the logistics of search and rescue..let alone bringing food and water. Haiti's infrastructure was meager at best prior to this..now what little they had has been decimated. Haiti is in serious trouble. The after effects will be devastating. Very sad.

No matter what your political leanings are..they need help and lots of it. For the United States not to help would basically be criminal.

I am sure the UN will be there to control looters and wide spread robbery durning this time of havoc in there country. The biggest problem they have now is Disentary from drinking contaminated water.

You can live for days without food . but not without water

Look, I highly doubt anyone on here is advactaing to just let them all die or not to help out as much as we can.

To state,.."For the United States not to help would basically be criminal." << is... hell, I don't know how to describe such a completely ass backward statement.

Once again, Proper context dope heads........I said it before for this thread or another, until I hear someone speak about Darfur and all the other Genocides that have taken place in the last 30 years, I will just chalk all this up to heat of the moment.

If you really cared about Humanity like so many of you claim, there would be far more threads dedicated to all of the other current ongoing humanitarian crisis, crimes against humans and genocides that all of these same countries that are rushing aid to HAiTI seem to turn a blind eye to so easily.

I agree there should be more threads about other situations where humanity towards are fellow man is needed. But this thread could be a start to something good.

Listen dope head - Darfur, although horrible, is not caused by an unintentional natural disaster. I'm not downplaying Darfur, but there is a difference when thousands of deaths are caused by nature. In any case, no one here is saying to ignore all other atrocities. We're talking about Haiti because that's what the threads about. If there were other threads about things like Darfur, I'm sure people would express the same compassion.

I just sent 1000 bucks to the Red Cross since it's one the few orgs i trust to use my money to help people and not line the pockets of their administrative staff.

The US should help and from what I can see we are leaps and bounds ahead of any other country but we have no obligation to do so and certainly would not be 'criminal' to sit back and do nothing. We give a HUGE amount of taxpayer dollars to many countries around the world. way more that any other country so all the america haters need to shut the f*ck up.

Hey xgen70, I just want to let you know that I completely agree with you on this stuff. You're not alone. This situation is exactly why this world is the way it is today.

People just assume someone is going to swoop in and rescue them. I agree that these people do need help, yes I feel bad that so many are dead and missing. But for our country to go in there with our tax dollars and rebuild their country is ridiculous when our own country is about to collapse on itself.

Where was Haiti or any other country during Katrina? Where were they Fall of '08 when our economy collapsed? Can you imagine them offering to help us "rebuild" if we had a 7.0 somewhere here on the mainland? Absolutely not!

Not helping would be criminal? That's ridiculous. First, we need to take care of our country and believe me it needs help. If we don't there won't be a country or money left to help anyone ever.

Natural disasters happen. You can't stop them. I love how Obama just offers all of our money to another country without even blinking an eye. What about everyone who is unemployed HERE? What about families who have lost their homes and living in motels HERE? What about the father of a family who can't put food on his table HERE? What about the veteran who risked his life for your freedom and just got home to find that he can't get a job HERE?

I look at the 30% that gets taken out of my paycheck on top of all the property taxes that I pay and every other thing I am taxed on. It makes me sick to think that there are people in this country that are in serious need and we are turning our backs on them and we are so quick to shell out big bucks to help another country.

Here's a list with all the nations that tried to help during Katrina.

Interesting, even Iran is on the list.

I didnt take it as that at all. I believe this is a global community and trust me I've spent hours in prayer already for Haiti. I think we should "help", but I also think that we the people should have some control over what "help" we offer as oppose to Barrack going over there and writing out checks!

This country is backwards. The politicians are our employees. They work for us. These days it seems they only work to line their pockets and see what they can't get away with. I'm voting them all out in November. This is NOT what the founding fathers intended for this country to become.

I reread my initial post and it does seem a little harsh. Again, I do think we should "help" and I know we will no matter what I think. It's just hard to see so many taxpaying families suffering here on our soil. A lot of families could do a lot with just $100 and there's no one in the gov. ready to give that out. In fact, they want to raise taxes and spends trillions more!

And for those who are wondering what's going on with all of these natural disasters, it's not global warming.

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Read your Bible if you have one. I think the answers are in there but you should come to your own conclusion. In my opinion, the days we live in are the beginning of the end. You have to ask yourself. When you die, where are you going to go? I know I will get knocked for this and I don't care, I'm just here to warn you guys you can take it or leave it.

The things that are happening today have been since the beginning of history.
I respect your religious beliefs and your personal opinion, but I believe the struggles of humankind are timeless.
I suppose there is more at stake now with the kind of weaponry at the disposal of leaders/terrorists, as well as with the sheer number of people on the planet compared to even 50 years ago.
I choose to be an optimist. Hopefully, with the immeasureable amount of knowledge and history at our fingertips every day, we can lessen the impact of history constantly repeating itself.
    Just one man's opinion.

Its not that Obama is gonna cut them a big check to rebuild there coutry . He is spending out tax dollars to send Supplies , Doctors and other things needs over to Haiti. I have no issue with that at all .Lost of people are making donations to Haiti. A Sixers basketball player donated 100,000 dollars plus he is gonna match whatever fans dontate tonight at the Sixers game.

As far as issues that are going on here in the US like out economy and people losing there homes and living in hotels. You have to think about this We put our selves in this economic disaster. Yeah the job market is crap now this is a no brainer and if you have a job you hate you are thankful you have a job you hate than rather hate you dont have a job at all.

I'm taken back by the people who are using this tragedy as fuel to aide their political agendas. Not so much on this messageboard per say, but primarily on other sites with articles and commentary (primarily the Washington post).

There are innocent children and infants over there trapped under tons of rubble (or worse) and we have morons here saying they deserved it because of X, Y, and Z. Maybe being a new father has turned me into a softie (I know it has), but I just imagine my baby girl in a situation like this and it breaks my heart. I donated through my company which matches donations dollar for dollar and I urge others to do the same. I only wish I could do more. Just my two cents.
