I was at a beach that faces slightly south east Saturday, and everything was closing out! I like to think that I can surf with some speed but man I just kept taking a beating on every d@mn wave.. And noticed the paddle out was ridiculous. I feel like whenever the swell in directly east there's a current that pushes to shore. I had a camera and it took nearly 20 minutes of head aches to get out back... Just me or is it east swells that create a harder paddle out?

I experienced a bit of that yesterday off VB. Had to rest a bit once I got outside.
Those cold water headaches are killers. Water temps here are still below 40, yet I saw guys out yesterday and today without hoods. They weren't part of the usual, year-round group at Dam Neck (VB). Hadn't seen them around before.

Either those guys got balls or don't have a hood... That would suck getting frostbite on your ears

Saw a ton of SUPers without hoods yesterday in RI. Air was 60, but I think no hood in 37 degree water is kinda ridiculous.

Yup I agree directly east swells are NG.... Southeast and NE are good!

It's prolly better to just stay on the beach and watch everyone else have a hard time ... Enjoy the coffee

Brah the pier at sb was a killer paddle, 20+ guys out that I have never seen before but didn't have a problem getting waves cause everyone was still trying to get back out. But yea mostly close outs but I didn't get hit I kept exiting the wave early.

Agreed! I kept trying to catch the last wave of the set to avoid the f$#king hard a$$ paddle back out yet somehow it still took forever to get back out. There's only so many duck dives I can handle consecutively before I begin to cry
