If there is prevailing offshores, the energy showing in the bouys will not reach shore. What I'm getting at, is if the offshore winds have been blowing for longer then 12 hours, cut the bouy size in half, that shyte ain't making it ashore. Most of the time! 9 times out of 10, unless there is major swell driving behind it, mainly long period swell. Fickle is still predictable but mostly misable
I just checked the Belmar cam- it's going off today! Looks like Belmar is the exception to your rule... Usually Belmar is at least double the height of bouy readings... easily maxs out at 23ft most of the time
Hey clown. Buoys don't lie. I'm aware of this scenario you speak of. The trick is actually reading the buoy data instead of just looking at the main reading. For instance this morning the buoy said 9.5ft @ 8 sec. Or something like that. Swell height was only 6ft from the E. Wind wave was 7 something from the NE. So basically ignore the 9.5ft... and ignore the 7ft wind swell since its going the wrong direction for LI. Instead expect a 4ft swell based off the 6ft from the E. Not exactly rocket science
lol are u high on crack? do u know what offshore winds are? ur thinking of onshore for some reason .................. and yes bel 'mar is pumping right now.so so heavy
The buoys give you a bit of data that you then have to extrapolate the conditions from using your own experience and observations. That doesn't mean they are lying. Oy vey.
It's called dramatization. You must be a real fun person to be around. That extrapolate statement was spot on tho.Nothing I didn't already know but it's good to note for the peanut gallery
Really? Because it happens all the time. There's a small swell but strong offshores. Meaning north for LI. The strong offshores create a little wave and buoy shows 4ft or whatever it may be.... But the direction is north... Meaning that chop created by the wind that the buoy is reading is heading the wrong way. Do tell what doesn't make sense. Id love to school you
You need to look at wind wave height and period vs swell height and Period. The buoys aren't lying hahaha. You just don't know how to read them
This sounds eerily similar to the ideas of one hunter of sharks this forum has witnessed in the past.... Buoys do not lie, no matter what coast they are on. As others have said, the information is there for you to interpret
