What a year for competitive big wave surfing. I can't wait until the Mavericks BWT. It doesn't feel right with the Eddie being cancelled
Never been a contest guy, but have watched a lot of good contests come and go over the years. Nothing personal, just that surfing, sponsors and their target audience continue to change and evolve. There's a reason why they don't have contests at Sunset Beach, Narrabeen and OBSD and replace them with Nazare, Brazil and a wave pool. Still, there's just something *wrong* about dropping the Eddie.
Why was it cancelled? Is there still a dispute? As an edit--just saw why they cancelled it on Surfline. Bottom line--nobody wants to pay to support it. Seems as iteh contest has been eclipsed by others as Piedra mentions.....
