But in all seriousness, the idea of living in a hut hunting pigs all day wearing leafs to cover my junk my seem appealing at first thought, but I like my creature comforts. Hawaii has become a huge tourist destination, that much is fact. And I agree with you and whoever else said if we hadn't have done it, Japan would have. And if neither country did so, it'd just be a couple more specs in the middle of the pacific. The one point I do agree with Eddie and I'm sure most others do as well (without the major butt hurt involved), is that it's annoying/frustrating when very wealthy people (stereo typically white folk) show up with a false sense of self entitlement and act the the place is their own to do whatever they want with, corporations included. Just a lack of respect for the land a natives in my opinion. It is the world we live in unfortunately and happens all too often.

And back to the hut and pig thing, if I had the coin I'd LOVE to move down to Chile and set up a self sustainable farm. Grow some crops, heard some cattle, set up some wind & solar power sources for a house and surf some empty breaks whenever possible. I bet it's one freeing feeling to just fall off the grid.

Newsflash to all "Native Hawaiians": No mainlanders, etc, are leaving the North Shore. Sorry, it's just too darned pretty. The people who have the money have bought it all up, a long long time ago. You think you deserve to have the Hawaiian Islands turned into some exotic resort Indian reservation? Sorry, not happening. The only thing Da Hui will have going for them at the end of the day is how good they surf and how many azz whoopings they have delivered. That's about it. Those are not very worthwhile attributes once your feet touch the vegetation line outside the beach.
The one thing I noticed the most in Hawaii was that the loc'ed-out white boys were the angriest. The other local guys who were ripping had nothing to say. They let their surfing do the talking.
And yes, Oahu is a dump. Don't even bother going. Unless you need to make a name for yourself surfing, or got something to prove, just skip it.

Mrs and I went to Maui, its full of toolbag trustafarians, wanna be mystics who couldn't hack it in LA, its hollywood filth. def some good people and interesting places, but the surf is subpar compared to Oahu and no body works cause everybody is a trustfund brat.

and those people with the money treat the real workers (servers, landscapers, etc) like ish, I would never go to maui again unless my flite was paid for

and HOW GOOD of a 'FRIEND' is she? ;) need pics

Now that you brought up Florida, i should remind everyone that the reason there is no ASP rated contests at the Cocoa Pier or New Smyrna or Sebastian Inlet is because of the Fla Hui, aka "da Neon Shorts". Fed up with the exploitation of pristine surf breaks in the early 70s by carpetbaggers from Jerzy (Ron Jons) and NASA restrictions of the sacred Playalinda Canaveral Point due to the space shuttle program, the Fla Hui put their foot down hard. D*ck Capri, Mike Porpose, Gary Propper, and Greg Luhr (now working for NASA), "The Ninja Turtle Posse", laid down the law. No more contests until we get an entire half of the seedings from ESA Florida members, or...Kelly Slater gets to be world champ for 15 years. So ya'll have only a few years left until the cartel ends the blockade of our sacred surfing grounds. I'll bet ya'll can't wait.

Interesting. She works in the service industry and farthest thing from a trust fund brat and she loves it there. She surfs but like me doesn't need DOH bombs to have fun, so I don't think that's a big deal. And from the way people describe Oahu I'd never get a wave anywhere on the island any way so why bother paddling out.

She's a super cute blonde with DDs. And a really awesome person in general, always positive, never has a bad day.

Not telling on the other part. :))))))))))) Just another memory to make an old man smile one day when I'm regulated to the park bench.

metard always needs pics! We ever meet on a beach I can show pics from my phone, otherwise not happening.

Leety - feel free to chime in. No worries if you don't. Was just curious about it and I prefer to talk to people that actually live there to find out. We've been trying to get out to see her for a while, but financially it ain't happening anytime soon, the flights alone are $$$. Could save $$ by leaving the lil one at home but I don't want to do that, she needs to see the world too.

CR\PR or somewhere like that will be much more likely next year if I can stay away from Drs/hospitals. Dem med bills put a hurtin' on me.

Yep us crackas always messing up a good thang.

Will have to go with plan B then. Steal a boat from the harbor at Mavs, check out the big boys charging, then head for the south pacific. Gonna have to be a big boat, will need a crew. You in?

My question to that, is what makes Hawaii any more important than the other 11 stops the ASP goes on each year? They give each location the same amount of wildcards. I am not going to sit here and compare Pipe to Trestles, but you think the 1000 surfers that don't get to crowd lowers for a week are any less pissed off than the guys on the North Shore? They treat the North Shore the same as they do Chopes and all the Aussie contests. Every spot on the whole tour is a world class wave, where the local surfers are inconvenienced, but the local economy gets the largest boost of its entire fiscal year. Guys like Rothman whine about it, while thousands of local business owners and such require these events to get through the year.

No one will ever hold a surf contest here on HHI, but the PGA comes here every year for a huge event, always right after the masters, and they shut down the most popular course on the island for two weeks. Traffic is insane. The whole town is a mess, and the local Ecomony gets a 30 Million Dollar boost in a week. I don't really care what a few guys with a country club membership think about losing their course for a week to the PGA, because it's all for the community, not for a few guys in the water. And if local surfers can't understand that regardless of where they live, that proves that they care more about themselves then they do about their community. The ones that don't surf. They blood. They people....

Treat Hawaii the same as everyone else, which is exactly what they do. Guys had to sit out Chopes for that Epic week last month and take a backseat. They are just as important as the freakin Rothmans.

Hawaii has 3 events at its stop, how many do the others have?

Hawaii could survive without ASP, ASP is hurtin for certain without hawaii

damn this is a good thread too bad I cant read all 8 pages right now.

as others have said, eddie is a jew from philly,no different than the ones walking around in Lakewood.how he became so feared I do not know,i know in my neck of the woods he would get his azz beat and run back to Jerusalem.

next, talking about Hawaiian wildcards.whos he talking about?99% of people that surf pipe aren't Hawaiian, they aint even local.the only 2 locals are john john and job,and they are haoles too, atleast job had the balls to admit it in his movie.kalani chapmen, job, john john, uhhhhhhhh the irons bros, kala alexander, they are not Hawaiians.real Hawaiians il add.sure they live there but they are not Hawaiian, and kala is from kuali or whatever its called kaui, that's the one lol,not local.could u imagine every new Yorker shows up to vb claiming hey this is our wave we are the locals.real Hawaiians are fat Chinese lookin people.i don't even think sunny Garcia is a legit Hawaiian,I seriously cant think of any real Hawaiians.

ok history lesson, lets talk about the people who made Hawaii what it is.california, that's right.pat curren, toms pops, greg knoll, and the many others were from cali who went there and took control.only real Hawaiian I can think of was eddie aikau and his posse, they are Hawaiians.imagine me,a whiteboy, goes down to mexico and starts claiming I am Mexican, does that sound right.sheeeiiiiiiiit we can just cut off all our food that goes to Hawaii they will be dead in weeks, but im not for that.its just funny when people who aint even real Hawaiians like eddie and kala alexander try to talk shyt about the mainlanders.if u people hate the mainland so much see how good u are without us!!

Good point. But they are at three different spots, no? California has two stops. Hawaii is a special place in the heart of the surfing world. I am just saying that each even is treated equally and the rules that apply at each event are the same. And to your second point, I think that both the ASP and Hawaii would be far worse off without the tour stops there. Mainly for economic reasons. But again, a handful of surfers sacrificing a few days at Pipe or wherever the event is, for the better of the community seems to be the way to go.

The fact of the matter is that the islands have been over-run with foreign surfers and the foreigners are out gunning the locals. Why is it that there is not a Hawaiian in the top 34 surfers in the world? Its not a conspiracy. I think everyone likes to see Hawaiians surf well and be represented. The reason they are not in the top 34 is just that. They are not in the top 34. If they have access to the best surf on the planet, then why is there no young blood out there shaking things up? Maybe the younger guys need to take some time away from the north shore and surfing all the heavy stuff and develop style and skillsets that translate to the other spots on tour. Because being a great surfer at Pipe isn't going to help you at Lowers, HB, Brazil and most of the other spots.

Dunno why, but if Hawaiians want more representation in the ASP, they need to look in the mirror, plain and simple. The SoCal talent is also falling to the wayside and if they aren't careful, they are going to look like Hawaii in 10 years. At least there are still about 10 guys on tour from CA. Not sure what that means, but it is what it is. My honest opinion is that all the guys that were really competing in SoCal that were from San Diego would dissapear to the North Shore for weeks at a time every winter. I would hear them talking about it in the lineup when they would re-appear. So, I guess I am saying, these guys train in every kind of wave for 9 months of the year and then they still clock time at the big boy spots in HI. So, maybe in the off season, Hawaiians should travel ans grovel in Brazilian beach breaks. I dunno.
