So, back to the weather. Not really El Nino related (or maybe it is?) but has anybody else noticed that there have been absolutely no tornadoes in the midwest and plains states this year. By now we should have plenty of trailer parks and small towns wiped off the map. What's up with that?
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/online/monthly/newm.html It is too early to tell what this year will be like, but it seems the trend has been downward over the last few years. This is what I could find on it: http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2013/05/09/quiet-tornado-season/2148075/ Seems like the cooler weather leads to less tornadoes.
Prove it. Seriously show us any factual proof of your theory. Again you are the one going on with theories. Religion is about FAITH and not proof so it has no place in a scientific discussion about weather. You can have your faith just keep it to yourself and those who seek you out. It is safe to say in your checkered existince here on SI that you have found the few who want to listen to you. Why do you continue to post things like this when you have been told hundreds of times to stop? Are you actually so dillusioned that you think you will change any of these minds? If you really believe you will then perhaps CPS does need to check on the welfare of your offspring.
yes sir....da goods!!! Valhalla I think the Jetstream and the extreme cold is to blame on the lack of tornadoes. I was thinking we would see some serious tornadoes this year because the warm air from the changing pattern meeting up with some of these lows dropping down...as SIS mentioned. Who knows...
Good to know. I'm glad it's just regular weather stuff and not someting else. You know, in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott (who would like everybody to know that he is NOT a scientist) does not allow us to use terms such as 'climate change' or 'sea level rise'. If you can't say it then it can't be true. Man, I'd love to go tornado chasing out there. It would be such a rush. I love severe weather.
I don't know man...I love all kinds of weather but Tornadoes seem evil to me. I remember Hurricane Bob...88 or 89' I think. I was living in a trailer home in Kitty Hawk NC at the time. Well, we thought it would be cool to experiment with a particular mind altering experience as the storm approached. As the storm came in we took beach cruzers out to the By-pass (main road) and let the wind push us....I'm guessing 20-30 mph no peddling feet up...hauling ass down the by-pass in 40-50mph wind. The walk back was crazy as the storm strengthened!
shyt il take a cat 5 hurricane over an ef-5 anyday.or any tornado.i never lived in the Midwest, thank allah spaghetti arms mckenzi, but them tings tear down the whole fukin city.a hurricane you get flooded, maybe a tree falls on your car or house if u live near trees,i don't have any trees on my block.i don't mind laying some carpet and insulation, a lot better than building a whole new house. crazy thing is,its pure karma with this scenario.i remember after sandy some Oklahoma or one of those places some republicans said no to sandy aid relief, and a few weeks later they got torn down by some serious tornados and wanted some aid.phugged up. and I thought el nino was winter season not summer.idk im not a weatherman, but the last few winters been really consistant.last summer we had that early august swell that was like a noreaster with 70degree water.more of that would be shweeet.I think that was the only day in the summer we had waves.winters been good
I was living in Montgomery in '82 or '83 during Easter Sunday a church got wiped out by a tornado. The next day, more came through, and I was never so scared. I've been through Cat 1, 2 and 3s. You have time to prepare, physically and mentally. A tornado is so damn random. One minute all is good , the next, choo choooooo! Blam!
Never been through tornado. Did go through the derecho descending here in northern VA a few years back. I pinged the NOAA Doppler website that evening just because I was checking surf/wind forecasts for the wknd - - saw a solid line of orange & red, wtf, coming off the Shenandoahs & moving east, moving so rapidly, that orange-red line was a couple hundred miles in vertical length, straight for Bal'mer and metro DC. Was a Friday night. I texted everyone I knew local to get away from trees & take cover ASAP. And then that derecho hit, and hit so hard. Incredible power from Mama, booming down, blasting trees & taking out the region's power grid in seconds. Never seen anything like it. Been in the eye of 'canes in the OBX, but this derecho was sheer violence. Not the punching power of a tornado, but still, one of those holy effing hell moments. Sat outside on my front porch on the ol' bench with my soul mate, Yankee, witnessing it all come down. Mama knows: we are not worthy.
Back in February of '98, during a very strong El Nino season, my wife and I and a few buddies went to see Jimmy Buffet at the Coral Sky Amphitheater out west of town. Usually February is great cool, clear weather, very dry with low humidity. Not that year. During the concert, abooot halfway through his set, it started to hail, and cloud to ground lightning bolts created sonic booms and flashes of strobes as the crowd stampeded. Luckily we got out without injury, just a missing flip flop on my wife's part. We have always referred to that as The El Nino concert.
I used to hang out with a chica who emitted mulltiple sonic booms every time we got it on. Just sayin....
It isn't about agreeing. It is about leaving religion where it belongs, inside of you. Just be a normal person and talk about more than one subject. Even the friggin Pope thinks there is room in this world for science and religion to work together. If you think you think you are closer to your deity than that guy, then we know you really are batsh1t crazy. http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astr..._francis_supports_evolution_and_big_bang.html
Bull Sh!t! You cannot prove God. There is no DNA, no pics or videos. Face it Wayne religion is only about faith.
When I sacrificed a surfboard on the beach during a flat spell, watching it go up in flames....then waves appeared magically the next day? Was it because the board was signed by Hesus? This was way before Surfline, I had no idea there would be waves the next day, so will some one explain me?
Public forum does not mean freedom of speech. Also, technically, you have to register to post. So one could claim it is sort of private. This thread was clearly meant to be a scientific discussion about a weather phenomenon. You were just spamming for the Jesus. Not the place. If you want to give input on your experience with El Nino years and weather, then feel free to let it all out.
I didn't read this whole thread as I am a busy, productive person..... But when I have payed attention to this stuff, true El Nino fall/winter tends to suck on the east coast.
I just did a bit of research. El Nino events (as defined by NOAA) 2009-10 (moderate-strong) 2006-07 (weak to moderate) 2004-05 (weak) 2002-03 (moderate) 1997-98 (very strong) Number of named storms (1890-present) and ranking over the last 100+ years (only the top 15 years were available, the ones not shown are in the 1930s and late 1800s. 2012 (19) #3 2011 (19) #3 2010 (19) #3 2008 (16) #9 2007 (15) #12 2005 (28) #1 2004 (15) #13 2003 (16) #9 2001 (15) #12 2000 (15) #12 So it looks to me, and I am not a data analyst, that it does not matter too much it it is a weak, moderate, or strong El Nino event, but the years during and after are pretty active. Not a total correlation, but more than a random occurrence, you think?
