So, I have the Trace gizmo. And it has hooked me. I really like this surfing tracker. Props to to CJST, his referral got me onto it. Bot it through the Surfline Scout program, $149.00. Saved $50.00 from the website price. I ain't all that as a surfer, probably always be a hack, but this Trace thing is really a push for me. Knowing that my waves will be documented serves as a bit of an impetus to keep going, going, going. Anyways, it's fun to look at the numbers & the stats, it's no monthly fees, it's very easy to set up, the Trace folks are cool people who have terrific support / responsive client service, and you can request multiple mounts for your boarts & they will send them for no charge.
I like this type of tech...I'm always trying to improve and have similar Thoughts ya k that this would be a good motivator. The stats would really be interesting...degree of rotation for turns, etc. just that little bit of info would make me think a bit more each roundhouse or cutback. Although at a different price point, a buddy of mine ha the rip curl gps watch and I got to use it for a bit while in nica...loved it. Thinking I would like to get one of them so I don't have to deal with the mount but was great getting info...
The Trace has really helped me to understand how multiple spots work much better. You can see actual ride data and combine that with what you knew the swell, wind and tide conditions were. You just be careful to limit who you share your "observations" with!
No one I surf with has a trace...does it have a report or something similar to the RipCurl watch (nt., below)...just curious...I like the RC's use of the map and surf locations, etc. (buddy sent me this report after we surfed) RC watch is around $400 and a bit rich for me...the Trace provide a similar report as its more in my price range? CJ/Yank?
Here is my session from Monday evening. Great data and this is just a screenshot of the app. Much more detail including a wave by wave break down and more is available to you in the actual iOS app. And it's 1/2 the price of the watch. The only drawback in my mind are the mounts. But they are easy (relatively) to remove from a boart if want to do it.
Yea I thought the rip curl gps watch was a neat idea. Waaay to expensive though. But I think it'd be cool to see the data/stats. Like Yankee said, even just to push yourself. Never looked into the trace but it seems similar with a much better price point. I'm intrested
You guys are saying it. CJ posted his ride report, and that's what it looks like. If I knew how to post images on here, I'd do the same. When I'm in the water, I definitely have the Trace in the back of my mind & thus I'm more active. Which, I consider a positive asspect. As soon as I get to my rig, I can download straight into my iPhone. Takes maybe 2-3 mins, tops. You can do multiple sessions. Just turn it off & then back on again. It has something like 7 hrs of recording capacity before you need to charge it up again. It would record if in a pocket, for example, but it wouldn't be able to pick up on turns, degree of turn, stuff like that.
