Good indie film, saw it last night in Film Forum on Houston
(still going till Thursday here I think)
could be playing somewhere near you, too
Highly recommend it if you're into plants and such.

Not to ruin it for other people, but could you elaborate a bit more on what the movie is about? btw i love that name, classic character

"The story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who work together over the course of 40 years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant."

    as copied from IMDb.

to me, though, the film is that much more of an plunge into the existential questions of right and wrong, one's origins, history and connection with mother earth. the movie itself takes on the role of a guide through the jungle of spirit materializations, self discovery, awareness, destiny, and dreams. a moby cock? of botany, if you will, with a good deal of a ancient culture exposure and it's interaction (if not to say imposition on it) by the western world.
shot in monochrome, which is a plus, except a certain fragment, which i think is influenced by Kubrick...perhaps a deliberate homage?
    i liked it.

Sounds intriguing. Is this a documentary? I will have to look for it...
Thanks Towlie! Holistic medicines are where it's at.

It would actually be considered a cockumentary.

I thought for sure this thread would be about masturbation. I "embrace the serpent" whenever the esposa shuts me down.

Had a feeling, but just confirmed, this involves R. E. Schultes, a man considered a hero by at least myself and one other sweller. Great man, father of 'modern ethnobotany', and introduced to western science the existence of Teonanacatl(psilocybin mushrooms).

WHilst we're on the Serpent theme, a great read after watching this would be The Cosmic Serpent by Jeremy Narby.

Close. It's one in a series of notorious porn-flics, including it's sequel "Release the Serpent".
There was Dawn of the Serpent, Serpent Goes to Hollywood, Serpent Dundee, The Serpent Whisperer, and the forthcoming Serpent-nado!
...And just like this post, all in bad taste.
