Yup that does make sense. I would add though, I have lost my affinity for lighter boards strictly due to my age. I am 3 weeks short of 64, been surfing for 54 years, and I am just glad to be able to surf at all. Right now, my "shortboard" is a 7'6" Byrne big guy tri--I can actually still do well with it, and it is my lightest board as well. Others are in the 7'8 to 7"10 range now. Two longboards round out the quiver on the high side. Hoping to surf for a few more years.
    Thanks for input.

Were you not young, limber and strong once? That surfing above the wave is what happens when these kids gather a lot of speed in steep and walled up sections. The kind you might consider a closeout old timer. They are totally surfers and better than you ever were on better equipment. Up and doing turns way before you, try not to be envious. Don't discount the kids doing their "airs". I can see you waving your fist on the street, "slow down you young punk, this is a neighborhood!". Relax, it's surfing. You have exposed yourself as a boardsports racist.

To be brief, your post is idiotic.
    Thank you.
