this morning in ocmd on 33rd street the wind was so strong, between the hilton and quality inn, that it ripped my board out of the back of my yukon - I left it hanging out a bit... as the wind took it - by the way the wind was off shore like 30mph with gusts in the 50s it seemd like - it hit my tail hitch and now i have a ding on my almost brand new epoxy board. so - the question is, can I use regular polyester resin to fix my epoxy board? thanks!
No, when polyester resin starts to cure it melts the foam inside epoxy boards (eps foam). Polyester resin also doesnt adhere very well to epoxy resins. Ding-all sells epoxy repair kits for like 8 bucks. Or bring it by malibus, i do their ding repair.
Yeah, it reacts like acid. They make a simple $5.00 suncure epoxy tube that is a quick fix for epoxies. It hardens in less than 5 minutes, so you can surf right after. Grab that from a surf shop until its flat and then take it in for a real repair.
u can use epoxy to fix any board, but epoxy boards can only be fixed with epoxy. almost like blood type o
Sorry about the board, brother. Good info here. Just to clarify... you can use epoxy or polyester resin over polyurethane foam. Most "epoxy boards" are polystyrene foam, which you can't use polyester resin over..... at least not directly. Plus... epoxy does not like to bond to epoxy, either... at least not chemically. It's pretty much a physical (or "mechanical") bond, so be sure you really rough up the area around the ding.
By epoxy you mean an EPS...then nope...no Poly resin for you... Otherwise...sure...60 grit should work...not the best bond more so mechanical not chemical... I would just get the epoxy. So it hit the trailer hitch...how bad is the ding...deep fill? Then you may have issues with the epoxy...got a pic oops...double post...LBCrew is on it...
epoxy reair kit is less than $15 at your local shop. i just completed by first epoxy repair on a puncture and it went well. as mentioned, just make sure you rough the area up good with a blade and sandpaper, the more area the epoxy/resin has to grab onto the better. oh yeah, most important thing. make sure the board is 100% dry.
