I did the Manasquan Classic once... and there was actually good surf. Won a few and kept advancing, but at one point I just wanted to leave. Made it to the semis but lost it there... made the mistake of paddling over to the next peak and no good ones came through.
nssa contest that was supposed to be at sebastian inlet got put off and changed spots until it was called on at walton rocks near the nuclear power plant. conditions were victory at sea, head high, north east swell and wind at like 20 from the ne breaking way outside. the heat got doubled up for some reason and all 12 of us paddled out at like 8:30. (pretty sure they had open mens and open jrs in the same heat that day). i ran out when the horn blew and got to knee high water and stepped on some rocks and fell on my board to paddle out. took forever to get out. i caught two close outs and kicked out before i even dropped in. i spent the next 15 mins paddling against the current. i caught a decent right that i did a few cut backs and rebounds on and hopped and carved all the way to the inside. i saw it was eventually lining up left in the shore break so i went left with the wave. got speed, floated a section and hit the close out shore break. rode it a few more feet to the sand cause i didn't want to mess with those rocks on the inside. got out and walked the 200 yards back up to the contest site and the horn blew. i was like "good, i didn't want to paddle back out anyway" changed and waited as they announced the results were posted. i looked: green (metard) 0.00 points. i got 12th out of 12. last place. there were 2 green, 2 blue, 2 red, 2 orange, 2 white, and 2 yellow jerseys in the water at one time. one dude never made it past the shore break. last place........lol
