I never said there were no waves for a year.. I know there's flat spells every summer but that doesn't change the fact that they suck...weve all been there

So save your coins to go surf somewhere there is waves. Why complain about something that happens every year? I was in your shoes, once, but I made something happen.

Yeah and then the south shore of hawaii lights up. Summer does not suck everywhere. Just check the forecast in central america or California or a ton of other places.

I guess what happened was I was tracking this depression on the radar for a really long time and once the projected path was posted and I saw that it was heading for the gulf I just snapped....u guys are right though it's still early so this projection could easily change...prayin

If you're up in the bay, the water is probably still way too hot for them.

As a fellow South-Shorian, I hear ya Brett. I'm going a little stir crazy myself...but I ditto Admin's suggestion to take a trip south. I went to Newport two weekends ago and caught some nice chest high slop at Ruggles. The wind was onshore, we got soaked camping, and my chest got torn to sh*t riding without a shirt, but it didn't matter because I got to surf! You gotta take what you can get!

Also, it looks like we might be getting some knee-high rides starting today. If you have a LB, there's nothing wrong with that!

it's not too far into the bay. it's still in va beach. water temp right now is around 75 for ocean and maybe a bit warmer in the bay. lot's of 3-4 inchers. here they need to be 5" which any smaller you are really putting in a lot of work for not much of a meal. i haven't been able to find chicken necks anywhere, just been using chicken legs. I mostly use handlines....got two traps and haven't caught jack**** with them. have you ever used left over fish? i wonder if i could get it from a tackle shop..

Yeah I know just looking into the future the last week in August seems to have nothing unless this new depression some how curves up coast or the one behind it forms into a cyclone...I figured if that happens August will be over by the time it reaches Massachusetts(or if it does) and then I'll be in school. Guess that's why I got mad

Fish guts are great, but probably not so much if you are hand lining because they will attract so many baitfish and rays... or at least that is my prediction since I have never used anything other than chicken necks, which I assume is the same thing as what we call "gizzards" in my neck of the woods. Best place for fish heads is a fish market, they usually have a scrap bin they will gladly let you take from, or at least the ones I go to will let you in on it

thanks for the info erock, i think im going to go with a couple hoop nets and attach a mesh bag of fish heads / chicken necks off a pier...honestly tired of using handlines and throwing traps out that catch nothing haha
