i think they usually try to get round 1 over with asap, that way they can take all the time they want with the elimination heats.

ahh. Makes sense. They may be able to finish off round one in the morning then put it on hold. I never really pay close attention to the details of these ASP events. I assumed they were like the NSSA and the local stuff I have been involved with. They pick a day in the window and go for it. There are no week long waits. Its a couple of days back to back and its done...

I didnt realize that these ASP events go over 14 days and stuff... Thats crazy. The competetors are going to have like 5 days of just chilling on the gold coast. After the first round...

I guess thats the best way to do to get the proper days in... Its just crazy. Thats like golfers playing a thursday, then taking a week off before their next round!

the quicksilver site sucks. I have ridiculous bandwidth and the live video feature is terrible. It keeps fading and disconnecting. Its like their server is overloaded.

Same **** happened 10 years ago to all the fantasy sports sites. They couldnt handle the user work loads.

yeah the live feeds almost always suck online, i think it used to be worse though. In Australia everyone watches the contests in high def on cable tv....

Does fuel tv ever do live ASP contests in the states?

No, never live. Fuel is great, but extremely low budget.

Yeah i had a hard time not getting Owen Wright but with him being goofy footed and like 9 mil i decided against it. I have Joel, Taj, Mick, Julian Wilson, Josh Kerr, Jordy that won their heats, but like i said i need Dusty Payne and Alej Muniz to win theri second round heats at least.

By the way bede is a great pick guys is strong once they get some real waves. I couldnt decide between Bede and Mick Fanning i went with Mick due to his recnt success at Sanpper, its his home break so...

the fantasy site is pretty busted. I wish it gave daily updates in real time etc like all the other fantasy sports engines.

I just keep checking the quicksilver site to see my guys records. Have you guys found out how to see live scoring or anyhing?
In fantasy baseball/football, you can see a guys home run 5 seconds after it happens.

On my fantasy surfing dashboard, it just shows the guys i selected.

Maybe im missing something. Any advice?

What info are you looking for exactly? Fantasy Surfer isn't really stat based.

They've only surfed round 1, so nobody's been eliminated yet.
After the 2nd round is over they'll update any surfer who lost with a ranking. You have to wait until the entire round is over though because the rank is based on highest heat score.
And no, I don't think they are super fast with the update.

I think they have the same news updates/daily recaps as the event site.
If you're looking for heat scores, wave scores and replays, I pretty sure you'll need to sift through the event site to get what you're looking for (that includes live scoring).

I think the most you're going to get out of the fantasy site is the rankings. For everything else go through the event site.

    Exactly

Driftalong hit the nail on the head. Basically i watched round 1 live and I saw on the event site. Just to check to make sure i was right in thinking 6 of my 8 surfers won their heat i looked at "Round 1 Results" on the quiksilver event site. Or the Quiksilver Live app for ipod touch/ iphone which is the app for the event site.

There you can get heat highlights and scores.
I know who my surfers are and saw 6 of the 8 of them won. If you win in round 1 in " the game" contest format you are automaticlly thru to round 3.

Yeah, thats cool. I just wish it worked like the other individual fantasy sports. Like golf and stuff. Each day the results are updated. At least to the point where you see what each guy scored. If they advanced or if they have been cut. It makes the whole process more interesting, so you can know where you stand and can compare your status to other guys in the club/league. I'm sure it will get more advanced as the years go on, but it would be cool to ad a few variables to each guy so you can keep track. This way, we will all just have to wait until the results are in, then it will calculate our scores and stuff....

I'm just a fantasy nerd. The surfing setup leaves a lot to be desired as far as features go. Once yahoo or someone big picks it up for free, it will get better. It takes a lot of money to get something up and going like that. Yahoo etc already has fantasy engines that pump out the applets each season. You could plug in beach volleyball and yahoo could have a fantasy app made.

Yeah i htink once the first event is over and we can really see how it works or whatever it will be cool, right now you can just hope your surfers advacnce thru to the third round, if you get all your guys thru to the third round you should score ok.
I agree it would be nice to know hey my surfer is out and finished in this place and scored me this many points, basically so you can sort of see the points scoring works as it goes along.

I finally was able to watch some live coverage today. It was sick. It came through in perfect HD on my laptop. I just randomly clicked on the link at about 1:00pm PST, so 4:00 for you guys, and it was literally the beginning of the first heat in the morning.

I watched like 3 hours of it and it really was cool to watch. Ive seen the events like up at lowers before, but the comentary throughout the heats was very informative. The guys really doa good job explaining the criteria, and why guys are getting certain scores, and how they hold the scores for a while to see multiple surfers waves to guage what the grading scale is, i.e. a 10 today would have been the tiniest barrel ride. A 10 on another day could have to be a 10 second shack...

So it was cool to watch them with the commentary... It is really cool, but cheating that they get skiied back out by redbull after every wave... I thought the paddle fitness was one of the main things on tour. I didnt realize that they just get pulled back out and dropped in the lineup....

The positition jcoknig is cool too. They were losing position left and right....

But FINALLY!!!! i freaking timed it correctly.... I assume it will be around the same time tomorrow. Midafternoon for you guys.... Check it out!

I think they only use the jet-ski's like 50% of the time. If you saw the interview with bret simpson, he was saying the current was like 8mph out by the rocks. I guess it's kinda cool that it helps them surf the best set waves, but i have to agree with you... they should have to paddle it, or run around the rocks.

They took their time getting started this morning, so it might be a little bit earlier tomorrow.

They had a new video player running today that i had not seen before... your right, it was pretty damn good quality wise!

Actually not to bad. I've got 6/7 surfers still although I have Brett Simpson and Fred Patacchia going head to head in round three. Best case scenario I'm 5/7 after round 3. Hoping for the best!
