First winter since the mid 80s that I absolutely hated. I think I have surfed 5 times since November. Last year it was 5 times a month. Good bye February 2015 I hate you.

That's awesome, for me it was a combination of bad timing, bad attitude and the feeling that after 35 years of winter surfing I'm kinda over the cold. I think need to move to Central America for the winters.

Maldives is where it's at. (For now, this opinion may change closer to actual retirement)

My count is five separate swells in the month of February (2/2, 2/13, 2/17, 2/23, 2/28)... giving us about 10 or so days of ridable waves, some of them with decent size, too. I don't think that's bad for a month with only had 28 days. That, and the fact that there were never more than 10 guys out at any one time, makes for a really good month of surf, I think.

    As for the cold... brutal!

Hopefully the water temps get up to the mid forties by the end of March. I don't have wetsuite gear to handle this crap. Haven't been out since early December, this winter stuff isn't for me.

I thought costa rican wood was a big deal. Everything is made of teak and whatever special wood they use down there?

Also Zippy, do you need a housesitter when you aren't round, so the natives don't take over your land?

I haven't been to Costa in about 10 years now but back then I knew that was a big problem.
