I was free diving spearfishing with a guy I met in PR. He was going down 65 ft and getting lobster under a small ledge. He was like "Keep an eye on me". I said if something happened, I would have to go down to 40 and spear you in the leg to bring you up. I was hovering over him watching since the water is so clear. He did this with boogey board fins too, unreal.
no way. blue springs is the nicest spring in florida imo. the pressure and volume of water flowing out of that hole is insane. dude must have on a 100lb weight belt and no eardrums. I had to clear twice, and that was all before 12 feet.
im talking 12 ft from the surface. about where the cave entrance starts. dove down and touched it. never made it inside. you get pushed out of that thing fairly quickly.
Pretty sick but no thank you. Tried to spear lobster a few times at maybe 20 feet and had to turn around to scratch for the surface pretty much as soon as I got to the bottom. No lobsters for me...
Really nice spring, we go up there often, crystal clear and pretty chilly water...its a well kept state park.
Heh. Could be that looks familiar. I have always wanted to get into freediving, but I've never actually been any better than beginner at it. After watching that video and browsing Youtube this afternoon I decided to check out the reefs around here. Man, it is just so much more epic in clear water...I want to get into it again, but I just don't know if this murky east coast water is going to do it. Plenty of big Tautogs to spear, though. Gotta get the speargun up and running again.
