This came up in a thread a few weeks back. Thought I'd share the latest.

The ferry goes from Yarmouth, NS to Portland, ME. It goes each direction once per day. It's a long ride, and probably a lot of fun if you can afford it. My guess is it will be in the ballpark of $100 per person. Even so, it still beats the sheet out of driving the extra 750 miles.

Downside is that it only runs May-Oct so there is limited overlap with the best months. Plus, Yarmouth is more on the interior...you'd likely need to travel 40+ miles from the port to get to the more exposed areas.

I think I may have been the one to bring the ferry u. Can I drive my vehicle onto that b*tch? Or must I rent a vehicle once on the island? Super important. Renting a car blows.

Is Nova Scotia technically an island? I thought it was more of a peninsula.

    An isthmus perhaps?

Most ferries would have room for a vehicle so I'm sure this one does too. Of course it would cost a bit extra. Agree about car rentals...if you had to rent it almost becomes easier to drive the whole way.

The ferry from Portland, ME hasn't been running to NS for a few years but it looks like we'll see a new ferry in 2014.

Great work, MA. This is awesome stuff. It costs two arms and a leg to bring a car to ACK, like a few hundo. 750mi is not a drive I want to make, at least not through East Jockstrap. An 8 hour ferry is not a bad time, especially if it's got amenities like this one seems to and wifi goes a long way. BC Ferris out in Vancouver is a beauty of a ride so is the one to ACK, but those are only a couple hours. I suppose it would be world kicking a little Franglish to the wahines in the interim.

Good find! Definitely on the list for 2014.

I rode the ferry with a vehicle once 10 years ago. It was expensive but I don't remember how much. I recommend driving. The wildlife is fantastic, and the female:male ratio in Moncton, NB, is ridiculously disproportional... in a good way. Plus, from what I hear the best surfing in NS is north of Halifax.
