Futures seem to have more issues than fcs or other systems, repairs etc. Couldn't give you an exact reason why though. The new fcs system seems to be pretty killer, I'm still waiting to hear of any problems anyone has had with them. When you see no screws the 1st thing you think is the fin is going to fall out, but so far, so good.
I don't see how routing the futures box too deep would cause this? All futures boxes are either 3/4" deep or 1/2" deep and are molded boxes. If the installer routed too deep, the entire futures box, including flange, would be recessed into the deck a bit, but the fin would still fin into the box the same. I think the fin base is not deep enough to fit in the box all the way to the base and support the fin, so when he tightens the set screw, all of the pressure and then the torque from surfing, is transferred to that little bit of fin overhang. The fin base (tang) isn't big enough. The fact that putting a shim in the box under the fin helps kind of confirms that at least to me. Dude, you need more tang! Are you sure your not putting a (rear) fin with a 1/2' base into a 3/4" box?
Which Futures quad set up has all four fins the same size base? I'm just curious because I've been installing futures quad sets quite a bit for several years, and the rear fins always have the 1/2" base, front fins 3/4" base.
Not positive what model's of future quads, but some of the "retro" quads that have thick tails have the deeper boxes for the rears. We usually give out the composite sets with boards so that's kinda why Im not sure of the models. I will say that it was more in past years than recently though.
