Does anyone have any tips for removing the center fin from a longboard where the screw is stuck? I can't get the darned thing to budge any further and don't want to strip the screw head... All I can think of is some wd-40 or some type of lue spray at this point. I recall a thread about this earlier this summer, but can't find it when I search... Thanks.
yea, saturate the screw & plate w/ wd-40 & have at it. & i mean FLOOD the thing...if it's one of those little plastic plates w/ the brass screw, replace it w/ a stainless steel one when you're done. the brass ones seem to corrode more quickly than any other type.
Yea.. .brass is pretty soft stuff compared to stainless. Liquid Wrench seems to work the best for me... better penetration. And who can argue with that?
Penatrateing oil and let it set overnight. If that doesn't work, man up and force the screw out, if you strip the screw, you might have to use vice grips to remove the screw. Just buy a new screw and replace it.
If all else fails, you can buy a screw remover at the hardware store for about $3. It's like a reverse drill bit for use with stripped screws and whatnot.
i had one that was SO stuck one time that i ended up having to (very carefully) cut the head of the screw off, pull the fin out, and then remove the shank and the base i used a small Pneumatic dremel-type grinder to grind the screw head flush to the top of the fin base
Try some liquid wrench or pb blast. Just be careful and watch to make sure the stuff doesn't eat through anything as it is strong. Let it sit a while and before trying to loosen it actually try and tighten it a hair then see if it will pop loose. Just keep at it and be patient. Had that problem before with finbox screws and with bolts on cars and what not. Of course you can use heat with a car bolt though lol(don't do that though obviously). Good luck
PB blaster is a Heat catalyst penitrator meanin it works better under heat or friction. It does a great job . Try some of that but work the screw back and forth to make friction between the screw and the plate this will work it in the treads and break loos any rust holding it in place if all else fails the dremel is your friend but be carful
