Fins

I choose comfort over power, and anyway, the fins with a lot of thrust like Vipers hurt my feet (I've got foot problems).

Kicks are the most comfortable fins I've tried. They have moderate thrust.

 

The neoprene in the Vipers is glued to the top of the foot pocket, so it cushions the top of your foot. They're comfortable fins if you have narrow feet.

 

I just got new grey and blue makapu's which have good power and are pretty comfortable.

 

I used Custom X fins for a while before switching to Vipers. The Custom X fins were snug as a bug, and really comfortable. Decent on thrust and worked great for DK.

Switching to Vipe's was alot different and took some getting used to but they are powerful and seem to help hold the face alot better. Adjusting for DK took some time and patience too but I love them now. I think I need to get a pair one size down because I'm sort of in between sizes. So i wear socks with them, even though they have the neoprene padding, and my feet can hurt a little after, but I try to keep moving around in the water to keep my mind off of it.

I'm going to order the Mike Stewart Vipers soon and try those. Check'em out. They look sweet. Reminds me of a Viper version of my old X fins : )

 

There are 4 different types of Vipers, including the newest ones, MS Vipers. The other 3 types have been around for awhile:
V7 Yellow Dot (yellow dot = stiff blade, #=blade length in inches)
V5 Yellow Dot
V5 Orange Dot (orange dot = flexible blade)

The V5 Orange Dot are a lot easier on the feet and ankles than the V7.

Viper V5 & V7 models tend to have a narrow foot pocket - the narrowness is more pronounced as you move up in the size range, e.g., the L and XL. Unless you have long, narrow and skinny feet, you won't be comfortable using a L in cool/warm water and XL in cold water with 4mm to 7mm of wet socks. This is a known "flaw" in the design.

According to Mike Stewart, the MS Vipers have a slightly larger foot pocket (he says he has wide feet). However, the pocket sides are part of the very rigid side panel construction and they too, from what I have heard, do not scale up very well when 4mm to 7mm of wet socks rubber are added.

this might sound like a stupid question but i dont understand why when i wear my churchills without booties they fit and when i wear them with booties they dont im uncomfortable and my foot doesnt go all the way in
