i have a firewire direct drive that is in very good shape. only one minor pressure ding and no cracks. i like it but i feel that for our waves that i am too big for it. i will sell it for $525
i have a firewire taj in good condition one minor ding on the nose that was fixed well selling for 495$
I have 6'0 firewire alternator model. I find it does somethings very well, and other things not so much. It likes to surf tight in the pocket and vertical. It has great projection up the wave and release off the top. But when you get out on to the shoulder to do big cut backs it does not hold its speed well at all and gets bogged down. This is mainly do to the extreme low volume in the nose and the tail. The board is 18 3/4 x 2 1/4. By those dimensions you would expect the board to have a considerable amount of volume but it does not. It barrel rides great. It takes off under the lip and catches and holds real nice. Also it is very fast. Love it for this. All in all I really like the board for waist to 1 foot over head, steep fast waves, but as an everyday go to board, this is not it. Maybe the flex fire model is different, i dunno.
Flexfire I have a 6'2 FST flexfire I picked up about 2 months ago. I love it...It rode great during Bill. Then a logger rode through the rail and it was in the shop getting repaired for a month...but I just picked it up last week and I forgot how fun it is. It holds so much better than my 6'0 JC tuflite...
im pretty convinced on getting one. im leaning towards the rapidfire (bamboo deck) mainly because its cheaper. But i did see a slightly used FST for $550, that has no dings. seems like a good buy
not to mention.... have you looked at the tails on firewires... i traded in for one used once... perfect condition. rode a few sessions and put it back in the shop.... the tail doesnt exsist.. its just good on really drivey days... i thought it pumped a little weired to... i could of stuck with it i just dont want to have to deal with repairs on a vacum sealed boards or what ev... how do they keep the livelyness after a serious gash or something... the technology is continuing to improve though i think each year for that company... they came a long way from their first boards...
I dont know if id drop 550 on a used one just yet...keep looking i got mine in almost perfect condition from my boys at farias in lbi. granted they like me and were stoned when they gave me the board, but they gave me the board for 250 haha...keep looking youll find better deals
is the FST a better board than the rapidfire? i heard it doesnt ding as easy as the rapidfire. is that true?
