Ok I am intrested in peoples opinions on the firewire FST type construction and the newest XTR 7.0 series contsruction. Flex characteristics of each durability etc.... i am looking hard at the Firewires even possibly the rapidfire contruction but would prefere the durability of the decks on the FST. I want an Epoxy that surfs similar to a PU meaning very responsive etc. I am good to my sticks, protect them well, but the flex characteritics wear out in the PU sticks over time, is heartbraeking when my magic boards get worn out and feel like a log when they use to drive and turn like a bat out of hell.
I have read that Firewires are supposed to be super strong but they snap very easy. I think XTRs are a better kind.
Take a look at Coil surfboards before biting the bullet. Complete custom start to finish and a great bunch of guys to work with.
not true.. no board is indestructable but i've had my first firewire for over 6 years.. thing still rides really well and looks basically new except for some color aging... i just bought another one (dominator) at the beginning of the summer. best board i've ever had.. won't ever go back to poly
i like fw firewires are awesome boards that ride very well and WON'T snap easily. durable as heck and a great range of designs. ive ridden many many great PU (and had many snap or lose liveliness over time), tuflite, epoxy construction with xtr foam, and epoxy with other foams for over 28 years. if taj burrow can't snap these firewire boards with his crazy pro level surfing, 99 percent of the rest of us will be able to enjoy their fun flex and durability without breakage. initial cost may be a factor for many but over the years you save a ton that said try both. xtr is a great system too and everyone's got their own priorities and preferences.
