Since you intend to be travelling with your wetsuite a lot, I highly recommend that you budget for one of those wetsuite dryer things that you strap on to the roof of your vehicle.

Tacoma, jeep or SUV? Nice options at 16. My choices were walk, skate, bike or bum a ride. Make sure that you get something you can keep a board in. Racks are great till you leave your car in a lot and your board grows legs

Haha trust me I love riding a bike to the beach when I stay at my friends house that lives close to it. I live about 25 mins away driving.

I would first get the wetsuite dryer thing and then strap it to the top of a white windowless van.

Get the SUV, preferably with all wheel drive. You'll be amazed how much surf junk you can pack into it.

Not a Wrangler, they barely hold anything and will get young kids into all types of trouble.

I find a pickup truck is the most convenient. Especially if you have racks. An SUV with racks is good too. I see guys with racks on little sedan's all the time. One of my friend's in California has a Honda Accord, with a rack for his boards on top of it. I once redneck rigged a board onto the top of Scion XB that I was borrowing from a friend, when I lent him my truck for a job. I used rope to tie it to the top. Seemed like something you might see in the Carolina's haha. My friend who had an XB and surfed, did this and gave me the idea. His truck was out of commission one day and he had to use that to go surfing.

I have a 2000 f350, with the 7.3 diesel. Over 345k miles now. I have racks which I used to use for my ladders back when I used it as a work truck for my business. I had a 73 f250 back in the day, which I used to carry boards in the back. My favorite was when I was able to put a couple boards in the back of my 93 Mustang. I hung them out the hatch, and drove from North Jersey down the shore to Manasquan, back when I was still living up in Bergen County years and years ago.

92 Suburban with 3rd row seat..
Take out that 3rd row seat and fold the second row down and you have 8 feet of board storage or bed or whatever..

At 16 I would get the pickup. I had a nice GMC Sonoma when I was 17-25, great vehicle for a young guy. Good on gas, carries your boarts and good for when you need to move or carry anything big or heavy.

For the past 25 years I've driven a full sized SUV with a rack and a trailer hitch. Between boards, suites, stink'n dogs, guns, dead animals of all kinds, rods, tackle boxes, tools and lumber... and all kinds of other stuff... you'll need something you can secure. A pickup is great, but then you have to invest in a cap to secure all your gear. I find a full sized SUV suites my needs well. With a rack you can carry literally anything... sheets of plywood, boats... a big cargo box... Plus, they're better in snow than a pickup.

Oh... and get one of these for your wet gear: https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...MI_MWKi7291QIVVR2BCh0JjQieEAQYASABEgIgefD_BwE
