fishcuit advice

i've ridden one but not owned it. my preference is more a ...lost rnf shape. i thought the fishcuit was a bit sluggish and i like a snappier board.

 

you want to ride those things SMALL. i'm 6'1" & pushing about 200lbs & i rode a 5'8"x20.25"x2.75". my main complain what that it was a bit narrow. i really liked the board & rode it pretty much to death, but i'd have like it to be a touch wider...20.5"-20.75" or so. maybe even 21". but that's just me. i like my boards to be on the wider side in general. the description on the ci website says to ride it 6-8" shorter than your standard shortboard...so assuming the 5'10" is your standard hpsb, you'd go something like 5'3"-5'5" based on that advice.
i will say that it occasionally felt a bit sluggish down the line, but it never lacked for drive. i could make it go when i wanted to, but that's not what i was looking for. i originally got it to act as kind of an "anti-longobard"...something i could ride in knee-waist high summer surf where i'd normally be on my 9'6".

 

like Njsurfer42 I bought it as an anti-longboard for the small stuff. But I have taken it out in chest to head high surf and the thing flies. The board is fun it glides over flat sections like butter. I just find the tail to be a little to wide on it so i would consider pulling it in a little.

 

My favorite board is my 5' 10 fishcuit. I am 5'9 145lb. I can take off inbetween the long boarders and short boarders opening up alot of waves in the summer.
I surf assateague island, the waves are not steep making the most fun out of flat and crumbling waves. BUT when it does get chest to head or 1 to 3 foot ever groundswell. It absolutely flys.

I would say it is good for non perfect surf only after you spent alot of hours on it. Because it is so fast, waves that are closing out in sections make it perfect to whiz around or float over top breaking sections.

Downside with mine is duck diving because of the lenght. I have to start pushing it down way before the wave gets to me. When i get it perfect there is so much foam i shoot straight up out of the water like a submarine haha.

I took it out at 45th street ocmd right after lunch time when they allowed people back after irene. Im not use to alot of steep barrels but it took everything i had to make the drop ins on those waves haha. Very skatey. And with almost no front rocker very difficult on steep drop ins with hard offshores. Atleast for me.

Also i have to make long drawn out cut backs.

Overall i say go as short as you can.

 

GET ONE!!!! You won't be disappointed. My favorite board for waist to chest east coast mush!!! Took it to Boca Barranca and Pavones this summer and it rides like a champ in real 6 - 8 foot Costa Rican surf. Little loose but fast and fun.

 

i have the 5'6" ,, I'm 6'1" 190 lbs,,, 36l volume is more than enough for me. The fishcuit has full rails with very little rocker. Goes really good in tiny surf . The stock am2 fins made the board feel *blah* I switched those out for the stretch quad set. It's a fun board for those days when you wouldn't even really think you'd want to paddle out. it wont make make any difference in how it floats you. More volume = more floatation, epoxy vs. poly wont make it float any differently.
