Anyone been doing good on speckle trout? Hit my personal best of 26 inch 4.6 pounds a couple days ago.
Nice Specks Braap been a while since I have seen them, I ran into some puppy drum mixed in with small rockfish about a week or so ago. Lotta fun on light tackle
Nice fish! The striper bite has been decent around my hood at night. So this Friday after we take the kid to the Homecoming parade and game, I'll be hitting IRI.
That's a nice puppy, never seen one with so many spots though. Where abouts did you catch that one? This is a drum I caught last Sunday. He was around 19 inches. But had the prettiest tail I've ever seen. Threw him back though. Haven't been many drum this year here. Lots of specks so far. Been fishing a 5' ultralight st Croix with a lews carbon reel. Extremely fun fishing light tackle
We had the gator bluefish invasion yesterday on the beach. It was a sh!t show, the fish were all 20#s plus. Ive never seen blues this big in my whole life! I wish I had some photos for you guys but it was all I had to catch and keep my gear together. I went through six shads, six bunker snaggers ,a couple poppers and six wire leaders. My 5" pencil popper was all I had left that could survive the aggro bite. The phukrs took half the braid on my reel as well. Crazy Dayz!! Anyone south of M.B. HERE THEY COME!!!!
I've never experienced the larger blues running like that. I've been in the 12 to 16 inch range quite a few times. That's awesome RB!!
We had a run of big blues in the spring around ocmd. The run lasted a little over a week and I caught many 30-35 inchers. Actually had my picture in the paper for. 40 inch monster that I hauled in near the route 90 bridge. When those things are running you can't beat a 1 once jig head and a plastic shad body. The hit them like crazy and although you will go through the bodies the single hook is really easy to get loose. I hate dealing with trebles with a thrashing 15 pound bluefish.
a thrashing 15 pound bluefish in the spring has a 10 pound head and a 5 pound body(aprox) hungry fish
^^^ Yea... and I also recommend a good pair of dyneema gloves. I have a pair of these and they're awesome. https://www.amazon.com/punchure-Resistant-Dyneema-Gloves-Small/dp/B00E4WN444
Lbcrew, I gotta get a pair of those, didn't know that even existed. I hate trebles in general, even a small striper can fling a set of needle sharp trebles into your hand. Here is that 40 incher
A fish like that on light tackle is a crackin' good time! I know most people aren't into it, but I'd put that guy in the smoker.
