As of Monday 11/12/12 governor Piss Twinkie is allowing NJ residents access to their homes on the barrier island in my neighborhood from 8-3pm daily. Basically so people can salvage whatever they can. There will be no gas, electric, or water service in the area for 6 months. I think it’s a man’s/woman’s constitutional right to live in those conditions if they choose to. Apparently not. Holy sh*t, what did those poor humans do 150 years ago?! (kidding) Today I took advantage of this special privilege (sarcastic). I mostly wanted to pop a squat on my couch, put my feet on my coffee table and look out at the bay with my dog. I took my dog to the beach straight up my street after that. Like me, my dog grew up on the beach, so we were both very happy and relieved to be there. For me, “church” is the place where land meets the sea. The energy that exists there is amazing, intimidating, beautiful, scary, super stoking, deadly, irresistible, (plenty more adjectives for my church). Anyway, my dog was amping out all over the place (she’s 9) and I was taking in as much beach stimulus as I could before being kicked off the island at 3pm by the police. After about 2 minutes a cop walks up behind me with his hand on his gun and asks me “can I help you?” with an attitude. I refused to believe he was being that much of a d*ck. I was already smiling from laughing at my dog running around and replied “no, I don’t need any help, what’s up?” He actually was being a duesh master and apparently we can’t go on the public beach where we live. This caught me way off guard to say the least. I let officer hard on know I was there during the storm, had waves crashing off of my front door, and stayed for a week after. He said he was just doing what he was told and I believe that but it’s still not right. The ironic part is if anyone should be looking out for anyone on the beach, it should me looking out for him. During the week that I stayed on the Island (post sandy) I had face to face conversations with the mayor, chief, captain, sergeant, and other officers. They were all very respectful and genuinely concerned unlike officer boner breath. I understand things are f*cked up all over and there are more problems than solutions at this time, but treating the victims like criminals during this period of extreme despair is atrocious and useless. Sorry for your losses bro. Hope you and your neighbors are able to work it all out. Anyone who goes to church by taking their dog to the beach is righteous in my book. As far as the cop goes, you might want to google schutzstaffel...I think it's where we're headed. 'he was just doing what he was told'...
Where we're heading????? We've been there!!! Why do you get nervous when a cop even passes you by? You're not drunk, you're not smoking anything funny, you're not even speeding yet the fear is there! There's a reason and it's simple. We already live in a TOTALITARIAN state. Google that! Lennin (please insert your favorite Lebowski refference) wrote that once a state spend more on military/security than education it has officially become such a system. ohhh and per the recent "vote" ... two choices is one choice away from no choice. democracy here is smoke and mirrors for ignorant masses. we are already there !
Wow, Doug... My heart goes out to you, brother. I don't even know what to say except, "things can only get better." But even that just sounds so insultingly trite. You probably already know this, but you're not alone in your losses, your emotions, and the graveness of your situation. I'll say a prayer for you next time I'm in "church." As a side note... I've voted for one major party candidate in the last 20 years, and I've voted in every election since 1984.
Thanks for the positive vibes. Possibly part of the problem here is, the officials making decisions on how to "restore these communities" are not residents of them. Living comfortably in their own homes it's easy for them say, go f*ck yourself for 6 months because they're not in the situation themselves. Meanwhile an unnecessary amount of people are now looking for a place to live, availability is decreasing quickly, and rent rates just magically increased in the area. For most people the beach/beach area in Ocean County NJ is a novelty that they embrace only a few times a year between June and August. It's a hard pill to swallow when those are the people deciding if and when we can go home. Tumble weed Tuesday is the day after Labor Day and when 95% of the homes here become vacant until June. Sh*t, half of those bay front and ocean front homes are vacant even in the summer. All of those "home owners" don't actually live here. They're doing just fine, their primary residences are ok and so are there important valuables. I guess what I'm getting at is the voice of the year round residents is barely an audible whisper in the ears of people like governor Piss Twinkie. The “officials” in charge fail to see that the year round residents are a large part of what makes these towns functional in the first place. Governor Piss Twinkie isn’t dragging peoples drowning family members out of the ocean any time of the year, it’s people like me. PS in case anyone was offended, by titling flagged at church I’m not trying to knock traditional church at all. I’m not pro or anti on anyone’s religious belief. To each his own.

I was in Belmar last week and saw similar things. There were cops cruising up and down Ocean Ave constantly yelling out of their speakers that people had to stay on the sidewalk and couldn't be on the beach side of Ocean Ave. I understand that they are just doing their job but the people who live there do so for a reason. They love the beach and should be able to take a few minutes to relax and stare out at the ocean and forget about all the devastation. People need that escape, especially after losing so much. For the authorities to take the beach away from everyone is just ridiculous. These people are stuck living in shelters and working their asses off to salvage their homes and they aren't even allowed to have some time to relax on the beach? I just don't get it. I feel for you Doug, good luck with everything and let me know if you need help with anything.
I feel yah man.. I live a little north of you and was a first responder during Sandy. My shift started at 7pm- saw some **** and watched my life tore down by a redneck in a bulldozer smoking reds. My only advice is that the police and other people have been there for weeks at this point on end working crazy shifts. They snap and usually its on the wrong people. I ran up to surf after Athena and a women in a warm car told me I couldn't- I started in with the attitude, but stopped when I realized this isn't about my town or my safety but about securing the summer business. I went home cleaned a bit and went out and cleaned for others- felt as good as surfing believe it or not. Bottom line THEY ARE WRONG but my bigger issue now is mold- wind stay North so I don't have to see it. In hindsight I watched the vid up after Athena and thought that some of these people live in towns that were hit hard and instead of helping their neighbors they were indulging themselves. Shame on them!

I can't go home for 4-6 months. I advised my landlord that we need to cut out the sheet rock and wet insulation behind it but he thinks its fine. Since my landlord is wrong and not listening, mold could ruin the whole house by the time we can go back. We lost stuff, but not everything. I managed to barely save our truck and boat during the peak of the storm (that was nuts). About the fishermen in Deal: Wow. The cops pay check comes from the citizen he gave the $500 summons to for fishing (if the cop couldn't determine he was a fishermen and not a criminal he's a stupid f*cking a**hole and shouldn't be a cop in the first place). The community employs him to protect and serve them. In no way was this officer providing service or protection. For some reason police in this state are more into victimizing citizens than protecting them. Very occasionally they might help you, if its' your lucky day or you have a connection, or if you have a lot of money to pay good lawyers to fight for your constitutional rights or to bend the laws for you. Its f*cking disgusting. Like norbi said, "smoke and mirrors". I feel like we're going along with a 6 year olds magic trick, when in reality we knew the rabbit was there the whole time! The government "bends" laws into their favor every day to do some dirty sh*t, while at the same time they're locking people up for weed, selling alcohol everywhere and pushing crazy drugs all day on TV that cause death, cancer, and other horrible side effects. Are we really supposed to believe this hypocrisy is “democracy”? Its f*cking scary. Maybe that’s what they want, for us to be in fear (ya know, like fearful to go look at the ocean where I live)? Maybe it’s their way of letting us know democracy is out and communism is in? All I really know is, it feels super sh*ty and un-American.
