i missed xmas swell, last time surfed was ist week dec...lookin at a month long flat spell...is there surf ANYWHERE?
Isn't this long period swell today producing up in Jersey? 2' @ 17 seconds is actually delivering on the Delmarva. From around noon today:
Surprisingly decent in ri today. Forecast looked grim, woke up to 4 @ 13s...dat buoy don't lie. Mitchell, anyone, please explain the source...
Were there really not waves in NJ? NY harbor buoy was 3' @ 15s at mid-day. Special thanks go to Swellinfo and Surfline for missing this one, nobody out for blocks.
Surfline ran this story and graphic on the forecast long period swell a few days ago. I really didn't think it would show up the way it did. http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/forecast/developing-atlantic-storm-to-send-post-xmas-swell_121449/?slintcid=SL-SOCIAL&slcmpname=SURFLINE-SOCIAL
Chest high+ all afternoon with bigger sets just a bit north of AC. Fun all afternoon...sorry you missed it Baddy...
Dude, I surfed knee high piddling crap yesterday on the island... I caught a few but it didn't scratch the itch. Today I checked the buoys at 3pm... holy ****. The entire island was getting it. F*ck me.
Uh It was pretty damn good in the outer banks today. Don't have pics but it was really damn good at this spot we found..... Chest to shoulder high runners for close to 100 yds. Plate glass all day. 55 air 52 water.Doesn't get much better than 7 hours of surfing
From most of the pics I've seen online and from fiends it looks like that baby ground swell served up some nuggets from cape may nj to a little further south of OBX...and most of it looked juicer then what Xmas had to offer
was actually really fun this morning in the oc. wouldn't necessarily call it "good", but it sure wasn't flat & was well worth the paddle out, no question. sorry you missed it, baddy.
Checked yesterday early, then afternoon...nothing. Then about 7pm I get a text talking about waist to chest 20 mins north. "it was really fun". Yeah thanks for the heads up after dark. I need to learn forecasting intsead of relying these sites for breaks further than 10 mins from the house
The cams aimed at the two spots I most like to surf give a misleading impression of the waves. They both make it look smaller and more closed out than it is. I check the cams just to gauge whether there is swell or not, and more often than not disregard the cam and go based on the buoy reading and winds. if the swell and wind is right on the buoy, I go, even if the cams look weak. As far as getting reports from others. double edged sword...maybe five or six edges...the guy who checked on his way to work knowing he couldn't surf anyway is often gonna downplay the quality. The guy who is PUMPED to surf and sees something decent looking might just use the "e" word. I know I will check it and then underreport to a friend at home (unless its firing), not wanting to be that guy who said it was really fun looking and when you arrive at said spot 30 minutes later its weak and closing out with a bit of texture and I'm over it. As far as forecasts go...I truly didn't believe the long period swell would produce anything except long knee - waist high sectiony garbage. I would have said that even after leaving the house on the way to check. Long way of saying...well not really saying anything. Zoomed in web-cams, forecasts from random SI users in other states, reports from unreliable friends...low probabilities of accuracy. Good luck! We need it this week!
