I know its not a great place for waves but is there any place that anyone recommends to go in Florida in June for a quick visit that might offer some waist high waves? Im looking for a nice area with places to eat and nice hotels to enjoy with my wife, any suggestions? Thanks
thats easy...New Smyrna Beach..i was there last june and loved it. the Inlet is consistently waist high+ from SE trade wind swell in the summer. There are peaks stretching down the beach a ways on both sides so it spreads the crowds out and its not all that crowded to begin with. Its kind of a low key area with places to eat / stay / etc.
Not to mention all the Spinner and Black Tip Sharks: http://surftherenow.com/2008/09/04/new-smyrna-beach-florida-shark-attack-capital-of-the-world
We have discussed this area of FL on many different threads. The end result of the conversation is usually everyone agreeing that the sharks there are not dangerous. There is obviously a fear factor involved, but getting a few stitches on the leg is usually the outcome down there. Every knows that Florida is the shark attack capital of the world.... There are very few fatalities there though. Last guy that died off the FL coast from an attack as that poor kite surfer a couple years ago... apparently he bailed from his kite board a couple miles off the coast and literally landed in a feeding frezny of sharks and they tore the guy up. It was just the worse timing even really. Just a freak occurance. Im no more of a shark fan than the next guy, but those sharks in florida dont worry me. There are far less shark attacks in the red triangle and off OZ and South AFR, but those are almost always fatal. Those are from BIIIIG fish. Not little ankle biters....
