Happen to notice the date on the OP, sparky....? Your first post, and you've been lurking since April of 2015. Just now managed to get yourself loose from wayne's van, is that it?

Stay instate, you much better surf options in Florida than either NC or SC. St Augustine is way better than either of those two spots and you can goto Flagler

Salisbury is half hour from ocean. Stay down south. If you want to fit in with the local folks be sure to affix UNCW stickers all over your car and board - they will treat you kindly.

Chowan is closest school to Hatteras mostly weekend with occasional day trip, there isn't a close second on the east coast for size, quality & consistency IMO

Whatcha mean sparky? I made an account a while back but never bothered to login since I was mostly here to check the forecast and other times scroll through the forums. I googled swellinfo folly beach today and this forum came up and i figured it was worth actually using my account to help this person out. Just realized this thread started in 2013 though so guess there's no point to it now. I assumed since it popped up on google the thread would still be fairly new.

Wrightsville is awesome, and they are in a weird swell window. I've had some magic days down there during my formative college years. It's a fun town. Buy fishing gear too...I totally took that for granted when I was down there. Chip in and get a jon boat to scoot over to Masonboro during a nice Noreaster. Ya heard? Have fun and keep surfing, wherever you may roam.

Wrightsville and surrounding beaches have been closed indefinitely due to sharks, sewage and erosion.
    Jesus, Salt! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Oh cut it out. There ain't no secrets anymore, and people are gonna do what they wanna do and go to school wherever they want. I have been thinking about moving back down there. I would be hood rich if I sold my NJ house and moved down there.

I know there are no secrets. But if you watch the cams at WB during a swell, the line ups are full of "college surfers" just bobbing around. Hey, if you sell in NJ, WB is getting pricey and pretty pretentious but there are some areas that are dirt cheap.

Ha...I was that college surfer at one time. I remember thinking I could just roll-up to the peak and pick off the good ones right off the bat. I thought I was home. WRONG. Them good old boys don't take kindly to lack of etiquette. They can smell the Jersey on you, and they and their kids ran the lineups and would snake the sh*t out of you, as they should have. It was a good learning experience.

I've done wrightsville several times, but have been wanting to do a trip with several beaches by Wilmington. Carolina Beach is an obvious one, haven't hit that up yet, and heard about TopSail but curious what's up with Cure. guessin it's a military base ground or just flatline. one thing i considered was would i rather be close to Outer Banks or Florida - nevermind the time it takes, but i factor that in cuz i hate the cold. ALSO, it's National No Bra Day! tell your loved ones or ladies you'd like to creep out. perhaps in a fast food drive menu " Can i get some extra honey mustard sauce and by the way..."

Did you mean Kure? Similar to CB. All of "Pleasure Island" from the North End to Fort Fisher has surfable breaks.
Outer banks trips are a true road trip because you have to go inland to get back out to the barrier islands, If that makes sense. Fla beaches about 10 hours.

thanks CB for the insight- seriously, yeah Kure. yea i was talkin about Chs-> FL vs Wilm-> OBX. We have several surfable breaks on different beaches around here in CHS but it doesn't get discussed much at all, even the older locals had no idea. certain factors kept me here like food, girls, city life and others. when i went to COFC, the freshman ratio was 1 guy to 8 girls. no joke. i saw somebody mentioned there's a bunch of frat boys around here, that's a joke. 8% of the guys that attend college here went to a frat - that's not all 4 years either. on the other hand, 40% of the girls went to sororities. lotta guys do rock the crokies, short short dockers, but not all of those guys turned out to be duschees/frat dudes. it's getting crowded around here tho, so i'm considering in the next couple yrs if i need to move elsewhere - coastline of course and well below mason dixon line

Getting pics of Monster Hole? I don't go down there very often unfortunately, I don't go very far very much these days actually. I think I burned myself on driving before I moved here. Now, i'm happy to chill around the house until waves are ready to be ridden and then I go to one of my 3 spots I rotate. Occasionally I'll break the routine and venture South or North. Usually takes someone luring me out of my comfort zone.
