There is an easier solution than going vegan. Eat less, eat local, eat better. That is something that could be realistically accomplished.

    2) GMOs are not going to feed starving kids in some remote 3rd world country.
Ahem, they have actually helped third world countries quite a bit: http://www.agbioforum.org/v13n4/v13n4a05-vitale.htm

    3) No one has legit studies on the long term consumption of GMO foods in humans because the damned gov has no idea who has been eating them since they never told anyone it was in our food. All we have is correlation between increase food allergies and the introduction of the GMOs.

There are many long term animal studies like this: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691511006399
    And there is this: http://www.geneticliteracyproject.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Nicolia-20131.pdf

I think we are beating a dead horse at this point.

I agree. Unfortunately too many westernized people are busy chasing $$$ and rely souly on big Agra for their food. I also agree that a global vegan society will never happen. That's why I see no good outcome for the human race.

Brew I'm not challenging you or taking an anti GMO stance, but the first study states that a 90 day period observation model was used to come to their conclusion. Also a quick search if the second papers publisher Informa Healthcare reveals that they have ties to the biotech industry.

Peer review is helpful. Anyways, we have been consuming GMO for almost 20 years in this country. We have been studying health effects for longer. There are independent studies out the yay for this: http://www.fass.org/page.asp?pageID=52&autotry=true&ULnotkn=true
Sure, GMO could end up being bad for us in some way or another. But the science says it is safe up to now. I am 100% for continued testing.

Well then holy sh!t you really are fuked in the head. All along I just thought the weed messed up your brain.

Oh and Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha I got you to reply to me when you said you wouldn't!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!! Keep taking the bait man, just like a good little minion!

I retract my earlier comment about being impressed you had the self control not to get lured into more arguing with me. Now I see you are just like the rest of us and are no more enlightened or evolved. Anger still gets you mad and overloads your judgement then boom there you are arguing again! I farking love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Brew,

you can't eat cotton !! Well, you can, but it wouldn't be very nutritious. Besides- even if the GMOs ended up being safe to eat, they still have many problems associated with them. From monopolization to actual harm of the ecosystem and everything in between.

It's been said before in this thread, "it's all about the money" ... "follow the money" ... that is all that matters to these corporations. And the revolving door between Big Ag and Big Brother (The Gov.) is in-your-face proof of that.

    From the interwebz:

“Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the F.D.A.’s job” – Phil Angell, Monsanto’s director of corporate communications. “Playing God in the Garden” New York Times Magazine, October 25, 1998.

“Ultimately, it is the food producer who is responsible for assuring safety” – FDA, “Statement of Policy: Foods Derived from New Plant Varieties” (GMO Policy), Federal Register, Vol. 57, No. 104 (1992), p. 229

I am all for the science and technology. Yes, people shouldn't work for "free". I know these labs need money to continue r&d. But it seems that the $$ is the only incentive, and maybe helping the world as a sideffect would be cool too lol.

The whole idea of GMO is pretty crazy and learning on plants can pave the way for helping us as humans- maybe we can even become immortal with this technology. But for now, it looks more sinister then it does promising, at least to me.

I have said follow the money in regards to oil companies and global warming denial. However, in this case there are plenty of independent studies to back up the genetics companies. I still say more studies are needed, but I think the data has been pretty positive so far. Hate the company, not the technology.

Haha made you respond. Dude how old are you?

Notice I didn't respond to your immature rant about my mother.

I did however respond to your false accusations about my character to prove a point that you clearly don't get. im not forcing my views on you or anyone else. Your reaction is typical of someone who can't find any fault within themselves out of denial so you project your self hatred onto others.

    Grow up.

Brew its a light hearted post. I chuckled when I read it. It can happen to any food item. Meat or veg. Even from a local farmer.

I wish LSD was the only thing contaminating food. E.Coli seems like a much worse trip. ;)

The USDA says 93% of corn and 94% of soybean acreage in the US is GMO. Isn't it too late for "more studies?"

never too late to study, but looks too late to enact policy based on the studies

consumer choice (if labeling gets off the ground) should be the deciding factor, not biotech lobbying or the mob with the pitchforks.
