I could care less what anybody else rides, only thing I care about is etiquette and safety. I have been trying to get my wife to do some long boarding on small days but she just isn't into it so I suggested she get a sponge, and we could both mess around on it, IDK, seems fun to me like any other method of riding a wave would be. If you can't enjoy yourself while riding a wave on any craft then maybe there's a bigger problem.

To me it's all about the wave and being connected to it somehow and every craft gives you a connection, each a little different from the other. Everybody has there preferences based on how it "feels". I prefer riding a short board majority of the time, but I also enjoy long boarding maybe a 1/3 of the time.

I have surfed my SUP, but haven't done it in a couple years I think, don't really know to be honest, just kinda lost interest as it's a hassle getting that thing in and out of my place and loaded up and to and from the beach, it's a lot. One day I may consider a performance model and go really short and make it more feasible but as of now I'm not really going that route.

If I have an impulsive moment I could see myself getting a sponge too, I mean why not? Wouldn't be my go-to craft but it would be fun to mess around on. So it's whatever dudes, I stopped caring about what other people did back in high school (clothes, music, skate board choice, surf board choice, etc).

Anyways, keep it going. This is entertaining!

It's funny, After you surf for a while, balance comes so natural that you don't even think about it. Keep going man!

Yea I'll keep at it here and there I did realize some things I never knew and learned many things along the way still have some decent boards left I can practice with.. As was said above it all boils down to fun on a wave whether you lay knee stand do a cartwheel whatever if ur having fun with what Mother Nature has provided for us that's all that matters

My preference is to surf, but if there's nothing but shorepound the sponge comes out and its hella fun. I don't surf my SUP, I've done it (no where near a lineup or anyone else) but its not my thing. It its super flat sometimes I'll just take the SUP out and go way out past the break and just go cruise around. Seen some cool stuff doing that. On the way in I might hop a wave but if something rolls up, but that's it.

Will sometimes take the sponge out if my shoulder's getting really bad or its closing out hard. I still love to body surf too.

For me its all about having fun and just riding a wave any way I can. Biggest thrill is still surfing for me though.

I've entertained the troops more than once getting worked in the shorepound. I still have shells in strange places.

Body surfing lets me be IN the wave, vs ON the wave. Some days that's just what fries my chicken. May get me a body board eventually, for a little more floatieness. There's just somethin fun about it being just me in the wave, no board.

The Suns just lifting above the horizon.. Looks like the ocean is supporting it
You walk onto the beach take a deep breathe
Nothing like the fresh salt air
You look around feel a heightened sense about you and the universe
    Seagulls fly by honking chattering
A pelican splashes ahead in the glassy waves
Beach is empty other than a jogger in the distance
You grab your board and walk forward
Thigh deep you lay it out and splash yourself on it
A semi glassy 3 ft swell heads your way the sillouhetted wave is in front of you like a glass sculpture
The salt water spray laps on ur face and hair
You paddle out and at this moment every concern or worry
You had in real life disappears
You are a wave rider/wave lover and that's the bottom line

I can't agree with this more, it's so much fun just bodysurfing sometimes.

Yeah I resentfully have a job. Real sponges don't work. And we sure as hell don't have families. Kids and wives takes away one's herb money.

    Ya know what I'm sayin?

And all you The Bridge surfers should know Southside is a sponge domain with Nino Mancari and Kyle McCabe.
