Agreed. People complaining about forecasts that are more than 24 hours out is getting old. I guess some are just getting really desperate for anything they can get. Micah, since you didn't fix your forecasting - fix the ocean so it will stop changing its mind!
seriously bro - if you are both a) that clueless about how forecasting works and b) that dependent on the internet to know when to surf, then c) I would say with 99% certainty that anything over 5 ft is going to be punching above your weight - and you absolutely have no business paddling out in anything OH.
I studied Atmospheric science as an undergrad and the basic temp and precip forecasts two days out are only about 70% accurate. after that the drop off is significant. on the other hand when you look at wind models the longer range forecasts are a little more accurate... everyone needs to stop *****ing. drive to your spots and check it, and if your not close enough to do that make a friend who is
Man... Are there ever gonna be waves again??? This is like one of the worst flat spell I can remember. I don't think I've surfed in like 3 weeks
What did he say was wrong with your car? Also, be careful of the 14 year old! A little TLC on your part could easily turn into charges being filed. Not saying you ever tried anything but you know how f'd up a 14 yo old can be!
nothing has changed with the forecasting approach of the site in a long time.... been working on some major upgrades, and will release soon... but when you see changes in the long range, this is a direct reflection of the global model where the wind data is coming from. This has always been the case. And, yes the 4+ day forecast can be very unreliable, especially for storms that develop right off the coastline. This is what makes prediction on the east coast a challenge, because we are very dependent on the forecast models. And, small changes in the predicted storm track, can have very big impact on swells productions towards your specific beach. the forecasts are updated twice per day in the early morning and early evening. You can see the forecast update time on the very bottom of the text forecast.
yea, i'm VERY, VERY careful...i always make sure we are in a public place when we chat...either in the lobby of the school (in clear view of the cameras), the main office, etc...i'm very cautious. as for the car, my head gasket is going. not a deal breaker in & of itself, but given that i've sunk around $2000 into the thing over the last year, it's no longer worth my while to maintain the car. esp. given that it's burning coolant & the residue is gunking up the sparkplugs & the head itself is possible f--ked. not worth it.
OK. If you didn't get a new car yet, get a second opinion. a head gasket really isn't that bad unless the head is cracked.
I have been lucky enough to surf at least twice a week for the last month. Even this morning was fun on the incoming tide, small and clean and empty. I guarrantee that the crowd would be huge on a day like today in mid July. Surfing on the east coast is hit or miss at best. There are people finding waves at the right spot at the right tide every day the report is flat. These waves may not be epic by any stretch but they are there if you want to surf the little bumps.
Swellinfo, I know the swell forecast is updated twice a day, but doesn't the wind get updated like 4 times a day?
no, the forecast and wind conditions are currently both updated twice per day at the same time. The maps, however, are updated 4 times per day. Considering making some changes to this approach.
i actually closed the deal this afternoon on a 2008 jeep grand cherokee 4x4...super stoked!! the main reason i decided to swap rides now was the amount of $$$ that i've been sinking into it over the past year or so. there were potential issues w/ the head itself. i only had my nissan for 3 years & it gave me all sorts of trouble. i've been unhappy w/ it for some time, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back. i'm hoping & planning for the jeep to last me 8-10 years. i really don't want to go thru that process again any time soon.
yeah headgaskets jobs run about 1200-2000 dollars depending on vehical and if the head it toast. THat money there can be put into a down payment on something new witha warranty. Good move The lord blessed me with the give of being able to fix cars so I basicly gota keep them to the body rusts away before I get something off the lot new LOL
yeah same here. I got fed up with stealerships ripping me off so I took a bunch of auto mechanics classes at the local tech school and now do all my own work. even dropped a new engine in my jeep 2 years ago.
fixing cars isnt rocket science. If one takes the time to understand and learn the basic operations of it anyone can fix a car. Look at me LOL
I shoulda realized that was you, with that damn pic, we need to get some new ones, mb wed, we will hit thorp up
