I'm gonna try that soon. I'm kinda upset because the commodores I got are 4 months past the best by date and it shows.....they are flat and stale and horrible.

Debating bringing them back in my head.

Also I was just listening to that song this morning and I have been researching great lakes freighters late at night recently.

Should I bring these back. They are baad.

Grabbed celebration IPA last night......not a bad brew.

Some nights it's best to park it with a top shelf craft bourbon, a few solid IPAs & surf vids. Just sayin, amigo.

I'm not a huge scotch drinker, but my brother has been in town so we dipped into a few lately that I had on the shelf.

    Ardbeg Corryvreckan
    Ardbeg Airgh Nam Beast
    Ardbeg 10
    Laphroaig 18
    Talisker 18
    Lagavulin 16
    Lagavulin 12 LE
    Lagavulin 2013 DE

Not scotch, but I opened a Willett 18yr Wheater which was spectacular. It was dangerously drinkable at 140 proof.

Not a huge scotch drinker? Quite a selection. Or is it the fact they are still on the shelf and you haven't pounded them all?

I miss scotch. And bourbon. And rum. And tequilla. And beer. *sniff*

    Tonight will be vodka+club soda+lime wedge+apple ice.

I wish I was pounding McCallan. Or Elijah 18yr reserve. Or Guinness.

I've been collecting whisk(e)y for many years. I usually have 50-100 bottles in the "opened" closet.

Bourbon is my 1st choice when it comes to whiskey. Some friends and I have purchased more than 70 barrels together over the past 5 years.

It's a shame Heaven Hill stopped releasing EC18. I used to buy it by the case whenever I passed through Montgomery County MD @ $40/bottle.

Heaven Hill decided to pull the 18yr, age it a couple more years, and release it as a 20yr, then a 21yr, then a 22yr, and now a 23yr. Each of those has been priced at or above $140/bottle. And to tell the truth, the 18yr was a better whiskey, especially the ones distilled in February 1992. There was a nice run of barrels through that time frame.

Henry McKenna 10yr Bottled in Bond is probably the best whiskey Heaven Hill puts out when you take the QPR (Quality Price Ratio) into account.

EDIT: I didn't think about Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. It's a hard one to find, but it retails for under $50, and is very nice.

Wow dude, quite the connoisseur you are! I've never really been big into it but lately I have been. Jack Daniels and Jameson have been my go-to's but I just finished a bottle of Chivas Regal last night that was incredible! I don't really get into the differences between them, I just go with what tastes good and gets the job done.

Blind tastings are a great way to find what you like and to pick up differences. Get a few bottles, and have your wife or a friend pour them for you and don't tell you what it is.

It also takes price out of the equation. It's hard to spend $100 on a bottle of whiskey and say you don't like it when the bottle is in front of you and you know it's in your glass. But blind tastings never lie.

And always remember, taste is subjective. You can't argue flavor. What you like, and what I like, can be two different things, and that's perfectly fine.

    souljahsky,

That's some serious whiskey collection you got going on. +5000 points on the man card. And I don't give out points lightly. Well done sir.

I hear ya bout the EC 18. The 18 disappeared and the price of the others went outta my budget. Luckily (or really more like unluckily) I've had to cut out most everything but vodka. I do like to keep a bottle or two of good stuff around for a sip now and then though. Thanks for the tip on the McKenna and the EC barrel proof, I'll see if I can find them.

    Solante!
