I don't hate on Medina...well not anymore so than any other 20 yr old. Yeah the claiming is annoying and I think he surfs to win contests but the kid won fair and square and its no joke the pressure of Brazillian nationalism. I wasn't doing a damn thing productive when I was 20, so fair play to him.

But I'm not a big contest guy, its surfing so I watch sometimes. I just don't find his surfing inspiring. He's very very good, but there's many others I'd rather watch highlights of. Dane, Kelly, AI, Wardo, Taj, JJF, Knox, Owen...and the older gents, Occy, Curren, Tom Carroll, Shaun T, etc...(wonder what some of those guys could do if they had the boards available today).

Think I'll go look up some old Tom Curren vids.

 

But it didn't clean up. They waited until 2:30 to call it. There was a 30 mph side/onshore all day. Not the typical trades
Every surfer that won their heat before they put the event on hold said it sucked out there and they would not be out if if it wasn't for the contest. And they were the winners. It's not like it was big/good pipe.

My spelling and grammar suck as well. I'm usually in a hurry living well. I hardly waste my time on the forums, anymore, not like when SurfingOC.com was running this section of the East Coast. ukelelesurf.....you seem to think Medina is not getting the respect and credit he deserves? Give it some time. Only time will tell whether he is truly dominate a force ( for years/decades) or whether someone gets his number, so to speak. What i have been describing in my posts, strange you smart guys don't see it, is exactly what Mr. Slater has been doing to everyone for decades. <<<<Besides all the flag waving.

Medina pulled a Slater on everyone, from start to finish.

See, I can respond to this cause it is a well thought out post and makes sense...and I can actually read it. You are right, one title does not make a dynasty...although it is cool just the same. In fact, Fanning has three titles but his surfing is rather uninspiring to me (yes, he surfs wayyy better than I ever will but I just get bored with his repetitive turns) So we will see if Medina can get on a crazy title role. I feel like if JJF steps up his strategy in heats he will be the one to beat but right now it is Medina, Slater and Fanning and then everyone else. Next year should be interesting

 

Since your "usually in a hurry living well", wouldn't the quote feature be quicker than retyping people's responses? Click a button and done.

Yes, he was right on the ****ing money. Running the contest in bad conditions when they could have run it in real pipe conditions. It definitely favored Medina but I"m not about surf contests. Plenty of other free surfers that are great than watching horrible form/style by Medina. If I could have the style and skill of any surfer on tour, Medina would be on the bottom. He definitely surfs safe for scoring but his style makes me spew chunks.
