    Press Release
Knowing the Proper Exercise for Surfing
St. Augustine FL APRIL 13, 2011 In a small survey of surfers, conducted by a Flagler College sport management major for his apprenticeship, over half of the respondents indicated that they already know the proper exercise techniques for improving surfing. The survey was conducted in March of Flagler College Surf Club and Team members, and was posted on at swellinfo.com., a forum for surfers in North America.
The survey asked respondents how often they exercise. Of the 68% who indicated they do exercise in addition to surfing, 27% exercise at least three times a week, 30% five times a week, and 15% everyday.
The survey also indicated that 72% felt exercise is important to them to improve their surfing.
Although there is a lack of research related to the number of surfers who actively engage in a fitness plan, many surfers believe that exercising is not necessary. However, Alex’s survey showed that 60% of respondents who do exercise noted their exercise routine was not sport specific but was more general in nature.
Alex believes that part of the push back on surfers not engaging in a sport specific fitness plan relate to a question he posed on the survey. “Would you ever consider paying for an exercise plan or workout advice?” Of the replies, 34% of the surfers would be willing to pay for a surf specific fitness plan that would be priced between $30 and $50.

I'll do that occasionally when we are staying with the in-laws in Lavallette and there's no surf and I'm bored. My friend has a life guard paddle board and he takes that out when it's flat.

I've got a SUP that I use when its either flat, or victory at sea. Its pretty fun in the bay when the winds blowing and you have 2-3 foot chops coming at you. Never really surfed with it, because I know how it feels to be snaked by one of those things.

I take a sup out in Pepper creek which feeds the indian river. Nice to just paddle around and checkout the wildlife on calm days.
