+1. Diet is everything if you're about losing weight. Try fasting once a week for 18 - 20 hours . . . or twice a week. Has all kinds of good metabolic effects . . . especially the bad breath part . . . Like the exercize gurus say nowadays, you can't outrun your mouth (or a bad diet). You can be fat and fit if you exercise a lot but don't control diet, but diet will make you lean out. If that's what you're after. Not going to post my stats, y'all would lynch me for having them at my advance age (57).
In my humble residence, we eat a lot of salads, daily for supper. Now, truth be told, I eat a lot of salads because my beautiful wife puts them together....cutting, snipping, and slicing every type of veggie possible. It has made me slim, and in much better shape than years ago. I was, at one time, 210 lbs at 6'. I am now 165, at age 64. I take no pills whatsoever. Not even for being a moron....... So, yes....controlling what you ingest is the KEY factor. I love the line from Agabinets post, "you cannot outrun your mouth". Very true.......
I love how big this got... Cracks me up actually.. I was just being a whiny puss after thanksgiving and having to up my wetsuit...I think all of us know how to stay fit, it's just the holidays and most of us are stuffing our faces and working overtime to catch up on holiday expenses. I find my strength also increases with my weight gain but it doesn't translate to paddling. I think I'm almost 190 lbs at 5'11.5". But I'm so used to riding little boards like 5'5"s. I just bought a really fat 5'11 quad to get me through the winter.
This is something I just found myself doing without thinking about it maybe 10-15 years ago. I generally go from 8 p.m Friday evening after dinner to 7 p.m. Saturday without eating anything. Just get up Saturday drink coffee and maybe some water during the day, surf in morning, work outside or go for a bike ride in the afternoon. It just feels beneficial for some reason, and oddly doesn't increase my appetite much.
