My buddy told me yesterday that the N bound bridge is closed for repairs. The Bonner bridge is 1 lane due to a giant chunk falling off. Same bud fishes with an engineer in charge of Bonner repairs. Said that a diver inspecting the pylons told him several are just dangling, not sitting on the floor. The bridge has a "sufficiency" rating of 4 out of 100.
they closed the NB bridge over currituck sound on 9/15/13 for repairs to fix that "bouncing " effect that was always there - tthey said it was getting worse but I didn't notice that, back to a single 2 way bridge into Dare county Bonner bridge article on FB http://www.wavy.com/news/north-carolina/ncdot-begins-repairs-on-bonner-bridge#.UkV0_p6M-jA.facebook
You just have to wait til midnight to head down and it's all good. Then sleep in your car for the dawn patrol session if you aren't a hybrid local with a place to stay and then score and get a shower at a strangers rental and then head home. I don't condone the shower thing.
That bouncing was the best part of the ride. My kids always love going over that bridge. I think it used to be a lot worse than it is now though.
