So yesterday, there is this guy looking like he is scoping where to paddle out. Ten minutes later he is still hanging out there and with the tide going down he is now in the way of everyone. So I start to watch what he is doing, and right before a wave breaks he turns around and tries to hop on the board. I watched him do this a few times and of course the boards sinks and don't go nowhere. Since the tide now sucks and everything is a closeout I come in and mention to this guy that where he is practicing was sorta of in the way of everyone and if he noticed everyone was bailing early to avoid him. Then I pointed down the beach and said there are some smaller waves down the beach perfect to practice paddling and your pop up. this is what he said: Paddling takes so much cardio and by the time I have paddled I am out of energy and can't practice my pop up. so I am practicing my pop up first then after that I will learn proper. WTF? I could understand the cardio part since it looked like he just got off his couch playing x-box and he was one of those millennials. I am not generalizing about 20 and 30 somethings, but there are people in that age group that fit the millennial profile, and his was I am entitled to learn to surf my own way not realizing that paddling is one of the most important things about surfing. Realizing that he was sold on his own logic, I said good luck and left. As I was walking up the beach, I looked and he was still there in everyone's way.
Surfing isnt a workout its a way of life brahs. Keep your cardio BS. JK idk sucks. He will need years of practice. Whatever.
